Paddy rice production reached 220 thousand tons and increased by 5.0% during January of 2023

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed through the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook that in January of 2023, paddy rice production amounted 220 thousand 101 tons and grew by 5.0% compared to the same month of 2022. The greater harvested areas and appropriate thermal conditions that allow the development of the crop in ripening phase explained this.
At departmental level, it outstands the volume reported in Piura (83.1%) by contributing with the 34.1% of the total produced, followed by San Martin (2.5%) that contributed with the 28.0%; Huanuco (15.1%) and Pasco (5.9%). On the other hand, it decreased in Junin (-68.8%), Ucayali (-62.5%), Lambayeque (-32.7%), Amazonas (-18.0%), Tumbes (-17.8%), La Libertad (-13.9%), Cajamarca (-10.9%), Madre de Dios (-6.1%) and Loreto (-3.0%).
The Department of Piura concentrated the 95.6% of the mango production of the country
The mango production in the department of Piura expanded in 12.6% and represented the 95.6% of the national total. Also, increased in Lima (55.8%), Pasco (48.1%), Cusco (18.0%), Ucayali (13.1%), Tumbes (11.0%), Huancavelica (9.7%), San Martin (4.3%), Huánuco (2.4%) and Amazonas (1.9%); while it decreased in Cajamarca (-84.8%), Lambayeque (-65.8%), Ayacucho (-61.5%), Apurímac (-53.0%), La Libertad (-41.6%), Ica (-41.2%), Ancash (-17.3%) and Junín (-2.5%).
At national level, the mango production increased in 7.9% compared with the same month of 2022 and totalized 173 thousand 941 tons, favored by the weather conditions that benefited the crops, to which it added the high external demand of this fruit.
In 4.4% decreased the poultry production at national level
In January of this year, the poultry production decreased by 4.4% compared to the same month of 2022, this negative behavior was observed in the 24 departments of the country, determined by the lower production of BB chickens, laying hen, turkeys for fattening and other birds. This was attributed to the high cost and basic items shortage for feeding the birds, such as soy, hard yellow corn and whole meal; also, influenced the blockage of highways before the social manifestations that happened in different regions of the country.
Poultry production of the main producer departments decreased, such is the case of La Libertad (-5.1%) and Lima (-3.6%); in spite of this result, both contributed with the 71.0% of the national total.
Copper production decreased by 1.6%
During the first month of 2023, copper production registered a reduction of 1.6% compared with January of 2022, due to lower volumes removed from Antamina, Marcobre, Minera Las Bambas, Sociedad Minera El Brocal, Southern Perú Copper Corporation, Minera Antapaccay and Cerro Verde. Mainly influenced by the highway stoppage in several places at national level, mainly in the roadway corridor Vial del Sur, which unfavorable influenced in the mining activity. This situation was attenuated by the contribution of the mining Anglo American Quellaveco and the increase reported in Hudbay Perú, Gold Fields La Cima and in Minera Shouxin Perú.
At departmental level, copper production was affected in Pasco (-72.1%), Ica (-38.9%), Huancavelica (-23.8%), Ancash (-21.4%), Apurimac (-18.2%), Tacna (-6.3%), Arequipa (-2.6%) and Junín (-2.6%). Nevertheless, it increased in Moquegua (145.8%) that in the month under analysis was the second producer of the red metal, due to the beginning of operations of the company Anglo American Quellaveco since September of 2022 followed by Ayacucho (83.8%), Cajamarca (28.9%), Lima (9.5%) and Cusco (3.3%).
In 4.0% increased the production of electricity during January of 2023
The production of electric energy increased by 4.0%, compared with the same month of 2022, driven by the greater generation of thermic origin energy of the power stations Kallpa, Chilca I, Fénix, Ventanilla y Termochilca. Likewise, solar non-convencional renewable energy generation grew.
Meanwhile, the hidraulic energy generation contracted in the power stations Restitución, Mantaro, Chaglla, Cañón del Pato, Chinango, Cerro del Águila and El Platanal, among others; likewise, it decreased the production of eolic energy.
By department, it outstood the growth reported in the department of Lambayeque (67.5%); also, increased in Madre de Dios (19.2%), Ancash (18.0%), Lima (13.7%), Piura (2.5%) and Ica (0.6%). On the other hand is decreased in Amazonas (-39.0%), Tacna (-38.9%), Arequipa (-15.4%), Puno (-15.3%), Pasco (-13.6%) and Cajamarca (-13.5%), which reported negative rates of two digits.
Revenues collected by internal taxes was of 12 thousand 61 million 88 thousand Soles
The INEI informed that the revenues collected by internal taxes amounted 12 thousand 61 million 88 thousand Soles, higher figure by 5.8% to the collected in the same month of 2022 (11 thousand 397 million 449 thousand Soles). This result corresponded to the greater payments of the income tax on sales in third category and the general value added tax to sales on their own behalf.
It is worth to mention that the collection increased in 14 departments, revealing a higher incidence in Piura (9.0%), Lima (7.7%) and La Libertad (0.7%); together they contributed with the 90.0% from the total registered.
