Restaurants activity grew 9.28% in January of this year

In January 2023, restaurants activity (foods and beverages services) increased by 9.28% compared to the same month of the year 2022, as a result of the positive evolution of three of its four components, promoted by the beginning of the summer season, holiday period and conducting the different gastronomic fairs; this was informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
 
Restaurants group increased by 13.14%
During the month under analysis, the restaurants group grew by 13.14% driven by the greater activity in the establishments of fast food, Pollerias (Grilled Chicken), restaurants, Chifas (Chinesse food), meats and grills, touristic restaurants, Cevicherias (Seafood restaurant) and Italian food,  due to greater promotions and summer discounts, extension of office hours, business partnership, greater coverage of delivery service, corporative coupons, dissemination and publicity in social network. Also contributed the conducting the gastronomic fairs “XI Arequipa Frozen Cheese Festival” in Arequipa, “XVIII International Fair of Tourism” in Lima and participation of Peru in the “International Fair of Tourism (FITUR) 2023” in Spain. 
 
The same trend showed ice-cream shops, coffee restaurants, Japanese food, Creole food, confectioneries, sandwich restaurants and pizza restaurants businesses. 
 
Beverages service increased by 24.49%
The INEI informed that the beverage service increased by 24.49% explained by the dynamism in the coffee shops, restaurants bar, juice shops, bars and discos activities, in response to the enlargement of environments, mixing of beverages, variety of macerated based on Andean fruits and summer season promotions with greater presence of night activity. Likewise, it favored to this results the activities performed with occasion of the Week of Chiclayo’s citizens and the “Festival of Artisanal Beer 2023”.
 
Catering food service registered a progress of 57.67%
During the month under study, the food supply (catering) increased by 57.67% due to largest contracts in the preparation and distribution service of foods for events, for marriages, baptism, executive breakfasts, conferences, conventions and corporative snacks.
 
Other activities of catering services decreased by 11.00% 
Other activities of catering service contracted by 11.00% due to the lower activity of food concessionaries due to the decrease of contracts in the attention of dining rooms nationwide, in mining, manufacturing, fishing, electricity sectors, cement factories, universities, schools, hospitals, clinics and ministers. This activity was affected due to the manifestations during the month of January 2023.
 
On the other hand, the food supply increased for contractors (food service to transportation companies) before the greater frequency of air and land travels due to the beginning of summer vacations.
