70.8% of adolescents aged 14 to 17 years old dedicates only to study

According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) of the 4th quarter of the year 2022, 70.8% of adolescents aged 14 to 17 years old dedicate exclusively to study, a greater figure in 5.2 percentage points compared with the same quarter of the year 2021. 16.3% study and work; 7.7% neither study nor work and 5.1% just work; this was informed the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report State of Children and Adolescence.
According to the residence area, in the urban area the adolescents that just study reached 76.8%, while in the rural area reached 51.6%.
72.9% of the population age 6 to 17 years old access the Internet
In the quarter under analysis, 72.9% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old used the Internet. According to age group, 86.3% of the population aged 12 to 17 years old accessed to the Internet and between the population aged 6 to 11 years old 58.3% used the Internet.
85.7% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old accessed the Internet through cellphone
85.7% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old accessed the Internet through cellphone, 27.0% used the Internet in the household and the 6.6% in the educational establishment. By comparing the fourth quarter of 2021, the access to the Internet through cellphone decreased in 1.7 percentage points, nevertheless it increased in 19.9 percentage points compared with the fourth quarter of the year 2019 (pre-pandemic).
91.8% of the population between 6 to 17 years old have Spanish as mother tongue
In the country, 91.8% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old learned Spanish during their childhood and 7.9% a native language (Quechua, Aimara or Amazonian language). According to residence area, in the urban area, the 97.4% have Spanish as mother tongue and just the 2.2% a native language; meanwhile in the rural area those that have the Spanish as mother tongue reached 73.7% and the 26.0% a native language.
17.1% of the population under 18 years old presented some chronic health problem
In the fourth quarter of 2022, 17.1% of the population under 18 years old stated to have some health problem or chronic discomfort, figure that means an increase of 1.3 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year.
62.1% of the population under 18 years old that stated that they have some health problem or chronic discomfort, sought medical care in some health establishment, increasing in 14.8 points compared with the last quarter of the year 2021. Likewise, 23.2% went to the pharmacy and 20.1% went to the MINSA health establishment, registering increases of 8.4 and 5.0 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same quarter of the year 2021. 37.9% of this population group did not seek medical care.
Access to health insurance increased from 89.7% to 92.5% among the population under 18 years old
During the quarter under analysis, 92.5% of the population under 18 years old accessed to some type of health insurance (whether public or private), higher figure in 2.8 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the year 2021. By the residency area, the coverage of this service reached 91.5% of the urban area and 95.9% of the rural area population, registering increases of 3.4 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively.
70.1% of the population under 18 years old of the country only accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance
According to the health insurance at national level, 70.1% of the population under 18 years old only have Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS); it means 5.4 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the year 2021. In addition, 19.5% had Social Health Insurance (ESSALUD).
In the rural area, the SIS presented a coverage of 92.4% and increased in 3.0 percentage points, compared with the last quarter of the year 2021, while in the urban area, reached the 63.5%, a higher figure in 6.4 percentage points, to the reported in the last quarter of the year 2022.
