1 de March de 2023 - 10:11 a. m.
In January of this year, the production of the Fishing sector grew 32.96% compared to the same month of the previous year, as reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Information Technology (INEI) in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of the Economic Activity.
This behavior was explained by the greater extraction of species of maritime origin (37.27%), with an increase in indirect human consumption (anchovy for fishmeal and fish oil), achieving an extraction of 546,831 tons, compared to 111,127 tons in January 2022, recording an increase of 392.08%, a result that was obtained in the third month of the Second Fishing Season 2022 in the Northern-Center Zone of the Peruvian coastline.
However, the disembarkation for direct human consumption decreased by 26.34%, that of species intended for canning (-44.1%) and for freezing (-36.6%); while the capture of species for curing preparation (11.1%) and consumption in a fresh state (3.2%) increased. In addition, fishing of continental origin contracted 0.22% due to the reduced extraction of species for freezing and curing.
Mining and Hydrocarbons sector decreased by 3.61%
During the month under study, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector showed a contraction of 3.61% compared to January 2022, determined by the lower metal mining activity of 3.63%, as a result of the low production volumes of tin (-62.5%), silver (-19.9%), molybdenum (-12.4%), zinc (-6.9%), gold (-6.8%), lead (-6.7%) and copper (-1.6%); however, iron production grew (51.7%).
In addition, the hydrocarbon subsector decreased by 3.5% due to the lower exploitation of crude oil (-16.7%) and natural gas liquids (-3.3%) attenuated by the increase in natural gas production (8.2%).
Electricity production increased by 4.81%
According to preliminary figures, as of February 27, 2023, the production of the electricity sub-sector, in February 2023, grew by 4.81% due to the effect of the largest generation of thermoelectric (15.9%) and hydroelectric (1.5%) energy; however, the generation of renewable energy (-17.8%) decreased.
Among the main companies that recorded the highest production, they highlighted Engie, Egasa, Kallpa Generación, Chinango, Egemsa, San Gaban, Celepsa, Inland Energy and Enel Generación Peru.
Domestic cement consumption decreased by 15.12%
During the first month of the year, domestic cement consumption decreased by 15.12% compared to the level registered in January 2022, due to the lower dynamics of private works and self-construction.
General Government investment spending increased by 11.47%
In January of this year, the investment expense of the General Government increased by 11.47% (S/ 914 million) compared to the same month of the previous year, due to the increase in investment in construction and to a lesser extent due to the increase in the acquisition of machinery, equipment and other assets.
