Restaurants activity increased 4.50% in December 2022

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during December of the last year, restaurants activity grew 4.50% due to the positive performance of three of its four components, supported by the Christmas and New Year celebrations. Likewise, informed that during the period of January- December of the year 2022, this sector reported a growth by 22.16%.
The restaurants group increased by 6.20%
The restaurants group reported an increase by 6.20% because of the dynamism experienced by pollerías (grilled chicken), fast foods, restaurants, Chifas (Chinese-Peruvian fused food), meat and grill, touristic restaurants, coffee shops and Italian cuisine businesses. This happened due to the greater attendance of consumers for end of the year holidays and long holiday weekend, presentation of special dishes for Christmas date, promotions and discounts, business partnerships with financial institutions and increase of delivery service.
Additionally, this group was favored by the celebrations of Christmas, New Year and the Day of Peruvian Grill, as well as the performance of gastronomic fairs such as “Perú Mucho Gusto” in Arequipa, “Ruraq Maki” and the “Feria de los Deseos” in Lima. Likewise, it grew the establishments focused in the sale of Japanese food, sandwich restaurants, Creole food, Cevicheria (seafood restaurant), Ice-cream shops, confectioneries and Pizza restaurants.
Beverages service increased by 13.97%
During the month under study, beverage service showed a progress of 13.97% before the increase of consumption in coffee shops, juice shop´s, bar restaurants, bars and discos establishments, explained by the development of celebrations during the month of December, promotions of free bar and in the list of snacks, innovative cocktails, discounts for memberships in delivery service platforms and alive musical show. Also contributed the celebration of the end of the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
Supply of catering service grew by 25.57%
During December of the last year, the supply of catering service increased by 25.57%, due to the greater demand of the preparation and distribution of foods service for events, in buffets attention, dinners, Christmas meetings, conferences and for organizations of business events due to end of the year celebrations.
Other activities of food service decreased by 6.48%
During the month under analysis, other activities of food services decreased in 6.48% as a result of the lower dynamism presented by the activity of food concessionaires associated to the reduction of contracts with companies of manufacturing, fishing, cement, mining, construction, banks, universities and clinics sectors.
On the other hand, the supply of meals for contractors (food services to transportation companies) increased explained by the increase of travel flow in the air and ground transportation, promoted by the domestic tourism due to the long holiday weekend and public holidays.
