Production of hard yellow corn reached 132 thousand 728 tons and grew 7.9% in December of 2022

In December of 2022, the hard yellow corn amounted 132 thousand 728 tons and increased in 7.9% compared to the same month of 2021, determined by the greater yields obtained, being this grain, main input intended to the preparation of balanced food for poultry industry and other breeding’s. This was announced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) through the technical report Peru: Departmental Economic Outlook.
Among the departments that outstand for its greater production levels were Piura (116.1%), La Libertad (73.6%), Ucayali (66.5%) and Lima (22.9%), that together contributed with the 48.0% of the national total. Likewise, Amazonas (58.4%), Cajamarca (30.2%), Tumbes (14.1%) and Pasco (3.7%) showed a positive result; nevertheless in San Martín (-77.2%), Ica (-29.2%), Junín (-26.2%), Lambayeque (-19.5%), Huánuco (-10.5%), Ancash (-10.4%) and Loreto (-3.2%) decreased.
Piura and Ica departments contributed with the 86.8% of grape national production
Grape production grew in the departments of Piura (8.0%) and Ica (0.1%), concentrating the 86.8% of the national total; in addition, in Cajamarca (202.9%), Arequipa (53.4%), Lima (42.1%) and Lambayeque (14.5%) increased. Nevertheless in San Martin (-39.0%), Ancash (-21.7%) and La Libertad (-3.4%) decreased.
At national level, grape production reached 227 thousand 741 tons, increasing in 4.9% compared to December of 2021, due to suitable weather conditions that favored the crop development; as well as the greater demand of this fruit in overseas markets.
Poultry production of the country increased by 1.9%
During December of 2022, poultry production increased in 1.9% compared with the same month of 2021, explained by the greater placement of BB chicken in the production centers of Lima (5.6%) and La Libertad (2.0%) that together contributed with the 72.8% of the poultry production.
On the other hand, twenty-two departments registered an unfavorable behavior, among them are Madre de Dios (-10.7%), San Martín (-7.8%), Ucayali (-7.5%), Arequipa (-5.5%), Loreto (-5.3%), Ica (-4.5%), Tacna (-3.4%), Piura (-3.4%) and Ancash (-2.1%), as a consequence of the lower supply of basic inputs focused in the preparation of poultry-feed such as hard yellow corn, whole meal and soybean flour, explained by the blockade reported at regional roads level.
Copper production grew in 19.2%
During the month under study, copper production increased by 19.2% and recorded four continues months of positive behaviors, associated to the contribution of the Company Anglo American Quellaveco located in Moquegua that reported a production since September of 2022; with the contribution of the volumes obtained in the Mining Las Bambas, Marcobre, Cerro Verde, Sociedad Minera El Brocal and Nexa Resources Peru; nevertheless, in Antamina, Chinalco Peru and Antapaccay decreased.
According to departments, Moquegua (199.9%) kept the leadership of growth in the production of this mineral, followed by Apurímac (84.8%), Ica (13.2%) and Arequipa (6.7%), that together the collaborated with the 50.6% of the total extracted. Also, increased the copper production in Ayacucho (28.6%), Pasco (28.4%), Lima (16.2%) and Tacna (6.2%). Nevertheless, it decreased in Puno (-85.2%), Ancash (-15.4%), Huancavelica (-9.9%), Cajamarca (-6.2%), Junín (-2.9%) and Cusco (-2.1%).
Electricity production increased in 6.8%
During the last month of the year 2022, electricity production increased in 6.8% compared with December of 2021, driven by the greater energy generation of thermic origin mainly coming from the power stations of Kallpa, Fenix, Chilca 1 and Ventanilla. Meanwhile the generation of hydraulic energy decreased in the power stations of El Mantaro, Restitución, Cerro del Águila, Chaglla, Cañón del Pato and El Platanal, among others. While the generation of non-conventional renewable energy contracted (Eolic and solar).
At Departmental level, the production of electric energy grew in Moquegua (177.1%), Lima (41.1%), Arequipa (38.5%), Piura (16.2%), Puno (10.2%), Lambayeque (8.5%) and Loreto (1.6%). Otherwise, it decreased in San Martín (-93.5%), Huánuco (-57.2%), Cajamarca (-44.1%), Tacna (-42.0%), Pasco (-35.2%), Junín (-34.0%), Huancavelica (-33.1%) and Amazonas (-31.3%), among others.
Revenues collected by internal taxes showed an unfavorable behavior
During December of 2022, the revenues collected by internal taxes registered 10 thousand 651 million 144 thousand Soles, an amount inferior in 7.7% compared to the same month of 2021 (11 thousand 538 million 446 thousand Soles). This reduction was caused by the lower payments of income tax in the areas of fifth category and regularization of legal entities; as well as the value added tax (IGV) of own account and the selective excise tax (ISC).
During the month under analysis, the amounts collected decreased in the departments of Moquegua (-20.5%), Ica (-19.0%), Lima (-10.3%), Madre de Dios (-6.9%), La Libertad (-2.8%), Loreto (-2.3%), Lambayeque (-1.6%) and Ucayali (-0.3%); while 16 departments registered favorable results, among them outstand Cusco (51.5%), Apurímac (31.8%), Arequipa (28.7%), Huánuco (21.5%), Tacna (17.3%) and Pasco (15.6%).
