Commercial activity grew 1.80% in December of 2022

In December 2022, the production of Commercial sector showed an increase of 1.80%, compared to the same month of the last year, determined by the positive evolution of the wholesale commerce and retail commerce, within a continuity of economic activities context; meanwhile the automotive trade decreased. Likewise, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in the period January-December of 2022, this sector accumulated a progress of 3.26%.
Wholesale commerce increased by 1.94%
During the month under analysis, the wholesale commerce showed a progress of 1.94% as a result of the greater sale of other type of machinery and equipment due to the mining, industrial and construction sector demand. The sale of other household goods such as pharmaceutical and personal care products; stationary items; books due to school campaign; optical articles and household equipment; as well as the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs due to renewal of computer equipment and computer software.
The sale of liquid and gas fuels and allied products also increased linked to the demand of gas stations, distributors of domestic gas and industrial and mining sector. The sale of agricultural raw materials and live animals due to the end of the year campaign and sale of metals and metalliferous minerals due to its international valuation.
On the other hand, the sale of construction materials, hardware products and equipment decreased as well as the sale of waste and scrap and other products.
Retail commerce increased by 2.48%
The INEI informed that the retail commerce increased in 2.48% based on the sale of computers, peripheral equipment, computer programs and telecommunications equipment mainly by biddings; sale of fuels for automotive vehicles and sale of pharmaceutical, medical, cosmetic and toiletries products due to product diversification.
Likewise, the sale of new products in specialized stores was invigorated, articles such as personal and optical protection, jewelry and the sale of clothing items, footwear and leather articles in specialized stores; the sale in super-markets and mini-markets due to greater sale of beverages, products of first need and articles for Christmas campaign.
On the other hand, the sale of household appliances, furniture and lightning equipment and other articles for the household in specialized stores and the sale of other products in retail stores.
Automotive trade decreased by 2.92%
In December of the last year, the automotive trade registered a negative variation of 2.92% due to the lower sale of parts, pieces and accessories of automotive vehicles associated to import contraction. Nevertheless, it grew the sale of automotive vehicles, maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles, and the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and of its parts, pieces and accessories.
