Vehicle traffic at national level increased 2.9%

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of December of 2022, the National Rate of Vehicular Flow that one that measures the movement of light-duty and heavy-duty vehicles through the toll booths across the country increased by 2.9% compared with the same month of 2021. This happened due to the greater movement of light-duty (5.8%), dimmed by the traffic decrease of heavy-duty (-0.7%) vehicles.
In the technical report, Vehicle Flow through Toll Booths is stated that during the year 2022, this indicator reported a growth of 5.5%.
Traffic of light-duty vehicles increased in 5.8%
In December of 2022, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through toll booths across the country increased in 5.8% compared to the same month of 2021, influenced by the reactivation of the sector “other services”, mainly of the creative, artistic and entertainment activities and due to Christmas, New Year festivities, that caused a greater attendance of consumers to shopping centers, restaurants and food fairs; as well as visits to different touristic attractions.
The toll booths that registered greater movement were: To the north, San Martín (Aguas Claras 17.9% and Pongo 0.7%) and Piura (Loma Larga Baja 2.2%); in the south, it increased in Arequipa (Matarani Concesión 1.0%), and in the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 6.7%). It is worth to mention that during the year 2022, the traffic flow of light duty vehicles increased in 9.0%.
Movement of heavy-duty vehicles slightly decreased by 0.7%
During the month under analysis, the movement of heavy-duty units through toll booths reduced by 0.7% compared to December of 2021, due to the low demand of this type of vehicles in Agricultural and Manufacturing sectors, affected by social conflicts and Transporters national strike with road blockings.
The toll booths with lowest traffic flow were registered: to the north, La Libertad (Virú -12.9%, Pacanguilla -7.2% and Chicama -4.8%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja -10.9% and Piura-Sullana -3.9%) and Áncash (Huarmey -8.4%). In the south, Cusco (Ccasacancha -65.5%), Apurímac (Pichirhua -63.8% and Pampamarca -62.6%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera -63.3%), Puno (Caracoto -52.5% and Santa Lucía -16.2%), Ica (Marcona -50.7% and Jahuay Chincha -10.9%) and Arequipa (Patahuasi -12.8% and Uchumayo-Concesión -7.5%).
Also, in the center, Lima (Corcona -12.0%, Fortaleza -9.0%, El Paraíso -7.4%, Variant of Pasamayo -6.8% and Serpentine of Pasamayo -1.5%). Meanwhile, in the year 2022, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles presented a positive behavior of 1.4%.
Movement of heavy-duty vehicle of 3 to 7 axle decreased by 0.8%
In December of 2022, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles of 3 to 7 axle registered a decrease of 0.8%, compared to the same month of 2021, supported by the lower traffic flow of vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks of 3 axle (-1.9%), 4 axle (-1.8%), 6 axle (-0.4%) and 7 axle (-0.8%). Nevertheless, it increased the traffic flow of trucks units of 5 axle (1.2%). In the year 2022, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles of 3 to 7 toll booths it has a slightly increase of 0.7%.
