Employed population in Lima Metropolitana reached 5 million 93 thousand people from November 2022 to January 2023

In the November-December 2022 - January 2023 quarter, the employed population in Lima Metropolitana reached 5 million 93 thousand 700 persons, increasing by 4.8% (231 thousand 800 people), when compared to the same quarter of 2022; this was made known by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics Technology (INEI) through the technical report, Labor Market Situation in Lima Metropolitana.
In 12.5% increased the population with adequate employment
During the quarter under analysis, the population with adequate employment reached 2 million 991 thousand 500 persons and showed a growth of 12.5% (331 thousand 500 persons) compared to the same quarter of the previous year. However, when compared to the November-December 2019 - January 2020 quarter, a decrease of 8.0% is observed (- 259 thousand 800 persons).
On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 4.5% (-99 thousand 600 people) compared to the same quarter of the last year, but compared to the November-December 2019-January 2020 quarter, underemployment increases by 17.7% (316 thousand 200 people).
Female employed population increased by 8.4%
During the quarter under study, compared to the same quarter of 2022, the labor market of the Capital of the Republic absorbed more female labor force, growing by 8.4% (182 thousand 100 women), while the economically active male employed population increased by 1.9% (49 thousand 800 men).
From the total employed population of Lima Metropolitana, 53.8% (2 million 742thousand 100) are men and 46.2% (2 million 351 thousand 700) are women.
Employment grew by 12.9% in the population aged 45 years and older
According to age groups, the employed population aged 45 years old and older increased by 12.9% (203 thousand 500 persons), followed by the population aged 25 to 44 years old, which increased by 4.9% (118 thousand100 persons); on the contrary, the employed population under 25 years old decreased by 10.6% (- 89 thousand 800 persons).
In 38.7% increased employed population with university education
During the mobile quarter under analysis, the employed population with university education increased by 38.7% (409 thousand 100 persons) compared to the similar quarter of the previous year. Likewise, the population with non-college higher education increased by 22.7% (191 thousand 700 persons) while the population with high-school education decreased by 12.7% (-324 thousand 400 people) and by 11.1% (-44 thousand 600 persons) those occupied with elementary education or lower education level.
Services Sector led job creation in Lima Metropolitana
During the quarter under study, the employed population increased by 12.6% in the activity branch of Services (323 thousand 200 people); however, it decreased by 8.7% in Manufacturing, by 1.3% in Construction and by 0.7% in Commerce.
Lima Metropolitana unemployment rate was 8.0%
In the November-December 2022-January 2023 quarter, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitana was 8.0%. It is estimated that 443 thousand 600 persons sought employment in Lima Metropolitana during that study period.
Wage mass from work in Lima Metropolitana increased by 18.0%
In the mobile quarter of analysis compared to the same quarter of the previous year, the salary mass from work in Lima Metropolitana recorded a positive variation of 18.0%. This indicator also showed positive performance compared to same quarters two years ago (36.3%) and three years ago (2.3%).
In 10.0% increased average monthly income from work in Lima Metropolitana
In the quarter under study, the average monthly income from work in Lima Metropolitana was 1,803.3 Soles and compared to the same quarter of the previous year, was higher by 10.0%. It also increased by 14.4% and 0.3% compared to same quarters two and three years ago, respectively.
Average monthly income of the male population increased by 8.9% and the female population by 13.5%
In the mobile quarter under analysis, the average monthly income of the male population increased by 8.9% and the average income of women by 13.5%, when compared to the same quarter of the previous year.
By 17.8%, the average monthly income of workers increased in the Commerce sector
From November 2022 to January 2023, the average monthly income of workers showed positive behavior in the Commerce (17.8%), Manufacturing (11.0%), Service (8.8%) and Construction (2.9%) sectors.
