Employed Population In Metropolitan Lima Reaches 5 Million 84 Thousand In The IV Quarter Of 2022

In the IV quarter of the year 2022, the employed population of Metropolitan Lima reached 5 million 84 thousand 600 persons, increasing in 3.6% (175 thousand 300 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2021 and compared with the same quarter of the years 2020 and 2019, increased in 16.7% and 1.4% respectively. This information was release by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), through the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Metropolitan Lima, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
Likewise, it informed that the population with suitable job increased in 13.6% (358 thousand 900 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2021 and in 31.5% (718 thousand 800 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2020; nevertheless, compared to the year 2019, it decreased in 9.4% (-310 thousand 600 persons).
Meanwhile, the underemployed population decreased in 8.1% (-183 thousand 600 persons); meanwhile that compared to the same quarter of the years 2020 and 2019 increased in 0.5% (10 thousand persons) and 22.3% (380 thousand 400 persons), respectively.
In 3.4% increased the female employed population
During the quarter under analysis, compared to the same quarter of the year 2021, the female employed population grew in 3.4% (74 thousand 700 persons) and the male one increased in 3.8% (100 thousand 600 persons). From the total employed population of Metropolitan Lima, 54.6% (2 million 777 thousand 300 persons) are men and the 45.4% (2 million 307 thousand 300 persons) are women.
In 11.8% increased the employed population aged 45 years old and over
According to age groups, the employed population aged 45 years old and over increased in 11.8% (189 thousand 200 persons), followed by the population aged 25 to 44 years old in 4.7% (115 thousand 600 persons); meanwhile, the employed population under 25 years old decreased in 15.5% (-129 thousand 500 persons).
Employed population with university education level increased in 36.2%
The INEI informed, that during the IV quarter of the year 2022, the employed population with university education level increased in 36.2% (389 thousand 700 persons) and those who reached non-university superior education level increased in 23.0% (199 thousand 300 persons). Meanwhile, it decreased in 14.1% (-358 thousand 700 persons) those that have high-school education level and in 13.3% (-55 thousand 100 persons) those that have elementary of lower education level.
In 14.3% increased the employment in Services sector
During the quarter under analysis, the employed population increased in Services sector in 14.3% (362 thousand 200 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2021, while it decreased in Construction in 6.6% (-25 thousand 800 persons), Commerce 6.9% (-79 thousand 500 persons) and in Manufacturing 10.1% (-75 thousand 400 persons).
Unemployment rate in Metropolitan Lima was of 7.1%
During the last quarter of the year 2022, the unemployment rate in Metropolitan Lima placed in 7.1%. It is estimated that 389 thousand 300 persons were looking for a job actively.
Wage mass coming from work in Metropolitan Lima increased in 18.5%
During the fourth quarter of 2022, the wage mass coming from work in Metropolitan Lima registered a variation of 18.5% compared with the same quarter of the year 2021; compared with the same quarter of 2019, it increased 3.9%.
The wage mass is the total of cumulative remuneration of dependent and independent workers in its main and/or secondary activity.
Average monthly income coming from work in Metropolitan Lima increased in 11.4%
The average monthly income coming from work in Metropolitan Lima, during the quarter under study, placed in 1 799.6 Soles, registering a growth of 11.4% (184.6 Soles), compared with the fourth quarter of the year 2021. Meanwhile, regarding the same quarter of the year 2019 it grew in 1.0% (17.4 Soles).
EMPLOYED POPULATION IN METROPOLITAN LIMA REACHED 5 MILLION 19 THOUSAND IN 2022
In the year 2022, the employed population of Metropolitan Lima reached 5 million 19 thousand 400 persons and increased in 10.0% (454 thousand 700 persons) compared to the year 2021. By comparing this result with the years 2020 and 2019, it presented positive behaviors of 32.8% and 2.1%, respectively.
In 2022, employed population with suitable job in Metropolitan Lima grew in 21.9% (515 thousand 900 persons) and compared to the year 2020 the increase was of 43.3% (867 thousand 700 persons). Nevertheless, compared to the year 2019 it decreased in 9.5% (-300 thousand 600 persons). On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased in 2.8% (-61 thousand 100 persons) compared to the year 2021; while compared to the years 2020 and 2019, it increased in 21.0% and 23.3%, for each one of these cases.
Employment increased in all age groups in 2022
According to age groups, the employed population in all age groups increased compared to the year 2021, registering the greater number in the population aged 45 years old and over with 16.8%, followed by the age group aged 25 to 44 years old with 7.2%, and the young employed population (under 25 years old) in 5.1%.
Employed population with university education level increased in 20.4%
During the year 2022, the employed population grew in greater proportion in the group with university education level with 20.4%, followed by the group with non-university superior education level in 15.3%, elementary education or lower education group in 5.1% and those with high-school education level in 4.0%.
Services Sector lead growth of the employment
In all the branches of activity increased the employment during the year 2022, outstanding the Services sector that increased in 15.4%; followed by Manufacturing in 6.7%, Construction 3.7% y and Commerce with 3.1%.
Unemployment rate placed in 7.8%
In the year 2022, the unemployment rate of Metropolitan Lima placed in 7.8% decreasing in 2.9 percentage points compared to the year 2021, nevertheless compared with the year 2019, the unemployment rate is greater in 1.2 percentage points.
Wage mass coming from work in Metropolitan Lima showed a variation of 21.2%
The INEI informed that in the year 2022 compared with the year 2021, the wage mass coming from work in Metropolitan Lima reported a positive variation of 21.2% compared to the years 2020 and 2019, increased in 43.4% and 1.2%, respectively.
Average monthly income coming from work in Metropolitan Lima increased in 8.1%
In the year 2022, the average monthly income coming from work in Metropolitan Lima was of 1 714.7 Soles, increasing in 8.1% (127.9 Soles), compared with the year 2021 and compared to the year 2019 it decreased in 1.2% (-21.2 Soles).
