United Nations Statistics Division, ECLAC, INEI and Ministry of the Environment performs National Workshop of Environmental Statistics

The United States Statistics Division in cooperation with the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics and the Ministry of the Environment performs the National Workshop of Environmental Statistics and Climate Change in Lima, from December 13 to 15 of the current year, event that will gather around fifty environmental specialists.
The Workshop is part of a technical mission of five days that will develop the international organisms in Peru, since December 12 to 16 of 2022, and includes a set of bilateral queries with Ministries and other statistical producers about climate change and environment in Peru.
The main objective of the National Workshop is to strength the technical capacity of the professionals in environmental statistics and climate change, gathering the interested parties in order to give practical training about these priority areas. For this purpose, it will apply the Comprehensive set of Statistics and Indicators of Climate Change, adopted by the 53° period of sessions of the United Nations Statistical Commission.
The activity will be attended by experts of the United Nations Statistics Division, Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as, national experts of recognized level, it is comprised in the Regular Program of Technical Cooperation of the United Nations: “Support to the countries in order to start the development of national programs of statistics and indicators of climate change”.
During the workshop there will be widely use within the Framework for the Development of Environmental Statistics (MDEA 2013), The Guide for Basic Set of Environmental Statistics, Tool of Self-Testing of Environmental Statistics, (HADEA) and the UNSD/UNEP Questionnaire about Environmental Statistics.
It is worth to mention that the National Workshop of Environmental Statistics and Climate Change is targeted mainly to statisticians, data Scientifics and technicians in charge of the production and development of environmental information and climate change of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics, of the Ministry of Environment and other public entities related with environmental and climate issues in the country.
Thematic content
Among the subjects that will be addressed on Tuesday 13 include: The International Framework of environmental statistics and climate change. National Framework of statistics, indicators and environmental accounts. Policies of climate change, communications of Peru and reports to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, Collection of data, compilation and validation of statistics.
Regarding Wednesday 14 of this month, the following subjects are programmed: Implementation of tools of support of United Nations. Technical training in subjects selected of MDEA. Ecosystems and Biodiversity. Forestry Statistics (MDEA Component 2, ODS 15).
The following subjects will be covered on Thursday 14: Statistics of Water, included waste waters (MDEA Component 2, ODS 6). Statistics of Solid Residues. Discussion of the results of the workshop (UNSD). Revision and adoption of the recommendations of the workshop. Comments about the future work. Conclusion and evaluation.
