89.9% of the population under 18 years old accessed to a health insurance

During the quarter April-May-June of 2022, 89.9% of the population under 18 years old of the country had some type of health insurance, a figure higher in 2.6 percentage points compared with the second quarter of the year 2021. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) through the technical report State of Childhood and Adolescence, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO) 2022.
From the total of persons under 18 years old that had some type of health insurance, the 67.8% had just the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) and the 19.2% the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud); these figures represents the increase of 5.1 percentage points in the first case and a decrease of 2.2 percentage points in the second case. In the rural area, a greater coverage of SIS was appreciated (90.1%), compared with EsSalud (4.5%). In urban area, the 88.4% of the population has health insurance, the 60.9% is affiliated just to the SIS and the 23.7% to EsSalud.
16.9% of girls, boys and adolescents had some type of health problem
During the quarter under analysis, 16.9% of population under 18 years old suffers some chronic problem of health, some symptom, disease or accident during the last four weeks before the survey. From this population, 86.6% had some health of insurance, having the 55.7% just the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS) a figure that increased in 7.9 percentage points compared the same quarter of the year 2021. Likewise, the 27.7% is affiliated to EsSalud.
Increased population aged 6 to 17 years old that uses Internet in the household
During the second quarter of this year, the 28.4% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old that used Internet within the household, this figure shows an increase of 4.6 percentage points compared with the same period of the year 2021 (23.8%). Meanwhile, the Internet access through cellphone decreased from 88.2% to 85.7%.
Increased school attendance in the three levels of basic education
During the quarter April-June of this year, the school attendance rate of early childhood education of the population aged 3 to 5 years old was of 89.8%, and increased in 3.3 percentage points compared with the same quarter of the year 2021. In Elementary education, the school attendance rate of the population aged 6 to 11 years old was of 98.8%, and increased 1.2 percentage points. In high-school education, the 87.3% of the population aged 12 to 16 years old attends to that education level and grew 0.7 percentage points.
53.0% of households of the country have between its members at least one person under 18 years old
During the quarter under analysis, the 53.0% of households have between its members at least one person under 18 years old. According to the place of residence, it is observed the same percentage in rural and urban area, 53.0% in each one.
Population aged 14 to 17 years old that just studies increased from 62.3% to 64.3%
During the second quarter of 2022, 64.3% of the adolescent population aged 14 to 17 years old that just studied, increased in 2.0 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the year 2021; meanwhile that those that studies and work represented the 15.6%, and decreased in 2.7 percentage points compared with the same quarter of the year 2021. Likewise, the population that does not study nor work represented the 12.7%, an increased in 2.0 percentage points. Meanwhile, the adolescents that just work reached the 7.4%, and decreased in 1.3 percentage points.
