Consumer Prices In Metropolitan Lima Rose 0.67% In August 2022

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) reported that, in the month of August of this year, the Consumer Price Index of Metropolitan Lima increased 0.67%, with an accumulated variation to the eighth month of 6.13% and that of the last twelve months (September 2021 – August 2022) reached 8.40%.
The technical report Variation in Price Indicators of the Economy specifies that the monthly result was mainly influenced by the rise observed in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages consumption divisions (1.71%) due to the higher prices of fish and shellfish such as tuna, horse mackerel, parakeet and mackerel; eviscerated chicken and its cuts; other food products such as basil, yellow pepper, rocoto and ground panca; tubers and roots (potato: yellow, huayro, white and color); bread and cereals (noodles, bread and cookies), attenuated by the reduction in the prices of fruits such as strawberries, citrus fruits such as juice and table oranges, papaya, passion fruit and blueberries; and vegetables such as carrots, leeks, green peas, chili peppers, spinach. Also, the prices of Accommodation, Water, Electricity (1.23%), due to the increase in electricity rates and natural gas consumption; and Restaurants and Hotels (0.63%) due to the increase in food service in restaurants, such as the menu in restaurants, grilled chicken, chicken broth and ceviche.
To a lesser extent, the prices of Education (0.68%), Health (0.67%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.51%), Furniture, Household Items and Ordinary Home Maintenance (0. 33%), Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics (0.28%), Clothing and Footwear (0.26%) and Recreation and Culture (0.21%). On the contrary, the prices of the Transportation divisions fell (-0.87%) mainly due to the lower prices of gasohol and LPG for vehicles, national and international airfare and interprovincial bus tickets due to the normalization of the service after holidays. homelands; and Communications (-0.13%) due to the reduction of rates in some plans for the consumption of internet and packaged services; and mobile telephone equipment.
The increase in prices in Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages was influenced by the increase in the price of fish and shellfish (13.1%) such as bonito (33.5%), horse mackerel (10.7%), perico (9, 7%), mackerel (8.1%) and smooth (4.4%); meat (3.2%) such as eviscerated chicken (5.6%), chicken cuts: wings (6.6%), leg (4.9%), breast (4.5%), milanesa (3, 8%), chicken offal (3.7%), ground beef (1.8%), parboiled beef (1.7%), beef stew (1.1%); other food products (2.0%) such as basil (18.0%), ground garlic (7.2%), ground yellow pepper (6.2%), mayonnaise (4.3%), ground panca pepper (3 .0%), ground hot pepper (2.8%) and hydrated dressings (2.8%); also, oils and fats (1.9%) such as packaged butter (2.4%) and packaged vegetable oil (2.1%); bread and cereals (1.9%) such as dry long pasta noodles (6.7%), short pasta (6, 5%), toast (4.4%), French bread (4.2%), wholemeal (3.6%), mold (3.5%), yolk (3.3%), ciabatta (2.8 %), packaged oats (1.8%), sweet cookies (2.0%), crackers (1.1%) and sweet cakes (1.1%). Likewise, the prices of sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and sweet sugar (1.3%) as well as white sugar (2.3%) and blond (2.0%) rose; coffee, tea and cocoa (1.3%) as ground roasted coffee (2.2%) and instant coffee (1.9%).
Meanwhile, the prices of fruits (-0.5%) such as strawberries (-14.1%), papaya (-9.6%), passion fruit (-6.7%), orange juice (- 3.5%), blueberries (-3.1%), pineapple (-2.6%), green banana (-2.6%) and table orange (-2.4%); vegetables, legumes includes potato and other tubers (-0.5%) such as carrot (-19.2%), leek (-15.9%), green peas (-13.7%), chili pepper (- 12.8%), spinach (-10.0%), pickled yellow pepper (-9.9%), American green beans (-9.9%), celery (-6.9%), macre squash (-5 .9%), Italian tomato (-5.7%) and chopped vegetables (-3.4%); likewise, the prices of chicken eggs fell (-2.1%).
The reduction in prices in the Transportation division is based on the lower prices registered by fuels for vehicles (-7.9%) such as gasohol (-8.6%) and vehicle liquefied petroleum gas (-7.0%); passenger transport by air (-6.1%) such as national (-18.3%) and international (-1.6%) air travel; and the interprovincial bus ticket (-2.7%). Meanwhile, the prices for the acquisition of vehicles (0.8%) such as bicycles (1.0%) and automobiles (0.9%) rose; likewise, spare parts and accessories for personal transportation equipment (0.7%) such as new tires (1.0%) and local transportation (0.3%) such as bus and minibus tickets (0.8%) .
In the Restaurants and Hotels division, there was an increase in the price of food service in restaurants and similar establishments (0.6%) such as cakes: salty (1.7%), sweet (1.4%), chicken fillet ( 1.1%), pork rinds (1.1%), grilled chicken (1.0%), chicken broth (0.9%), pizzas (0.8%), ceviche (0.7 %), menu in restaurants (0.6%) and marine dishes (0.6%). Likewise, the price of the beverage service in restaurants and similar places increased (0.6%) such as mineral and table water (1.4%), hot drinks (1.1%) and beer served (0.5%) .
The increase in the Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and other Fuels division is explained by the increase in the consumption of residential natural gas (6.6%) due to the tariff schedule as of August 1, 2022; residential electricity consumption (3.0%) according to the tariff schedule of August 4 of this year; and materials for the conservation, repair and security of housing (1.1%) such as paint (1.1%). On the contrary, the prices of domestic propane gas fell (-0.2%).
Products with higher price variation
In the month of August 2022, of the 586 products that make up the family basket, 410 reported price increases,
105 decreased and 71 showed no change. The products that registered the highest price increase were: bonito (33.46%), lemon (18.00%), basil (17.97%), yellow potato (16.59%), corn (16.30%) , horse mackerel (10.69%), parakeet (9.70%), papa huayro (8.85%). Meanwhile, falling prices reported carrots (-19.21%), national airfare (-18.34%), leeks (-15.95%), strawberries (-14.08%), green peas ( -13.74%), chili pepper (-12.79%), spinach (-9.98%) and yellow chili (-9.94%).
Products with the highest incidence
The variation in prices in the eighth month of the year was influenced by the increase in the price of foods such as tuna, eviscerated chicken and yellow potatoes, as well as the increase in residential electricity and the non-state university pension, which together contributed with 0.386 percentage points to the result of the month; attenuated by the decrease gasohol prices and national airfare; and in some food products (carrots, strawberries and chicken eggs).
Consumer prices without food and energy rose 0.31%
In August 2022, the variation of the Consumer Price Index of Metropolitan Lima, without considering food and energy (core inflation) increased 0.31%.
National Consumer Price Index increased 0.62%
During the month of analysis, the National Consumer Price Index grew 0.62%, due to the rise in prices observed in the Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (1.37%), Accommodation, Water, Electricity and Gas ( 1.07%), Restaurants and Hotels (0.68%), Health (0.56%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.54%), Education (0.49%), Furniture, Household Items ( 0.42%), Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (0.40%), Clothing and Footwear (0.37%) and Recreation and Culture (0.24%). On the contrary, the prices of Transportation (-0.55%) and Communications (-0.10%) fell.
Variation of prices by cities
In the month of August 2022, twenty-four cities where the Consumer Price Index is calculated registered price increases. The highest variations were observed in the cities of Chiclayo (0.94%), Ica (0.85%), Cajamarca (0.80%), Huaraz (0.73%), Chachapoyas (0.71%) and Iquitos (0.70%). While the cities with negative results were Pucallpa (-0.18%) and Moyobamba (-0.14%).
Wholesale prices nationwide decreased 0.27%
In the month of analysis, the National Wholesale Price Index fell by 0.27% due to the lower prices observed in national products: manufactured (mainly gasohol, diesel oil, petroleum
industrial, cable, cotton fiber yarn, water-based paint, metal containers, canned fish, coffee, construction rods and polypropylene films); however, agricultural products (lemon, corn, green bean, potato, grape, wheat, sweet potato, avocado and paddy rice) rose in price; livestock (live birds: chicken and hen, livestock: pigs, sheep and cattle); and fishing (bonito, mackerel, horse mackerel, cachema, hake, grouper, smooth and parrot). Likewise, the prices of imported products decreased (diesel oil, fertilizers: nitrogenous and binary, polyester fibers, synthetic fiber yarn, canned fish, mobile phones, construction rods, PVC resins, white sugar; hard yellow corn and wheat).
Prices of Machinery and Equipment in Metropolitan Lima increased 0.32%
In the month of August 2022, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment of Metropolitan Lima increased 0.32%, mainly due to the higher prices of capital goods of national origin, such as machinery and equipment for transportation: mototaxi, fuel filters and bodies; machinery and equipment for industry: office furniture, fire extinguishers and gas cylinders; in other machinery and equipment: fishing nets and wheelbarrows; and in machinery and equipment for agriculture: nests and birdbaths. Likewise, the prices of capital goods of imported origin rose, affecting machinery and equipment for transport: vehicles for the transport of merchandise and road tractors for semi-trailers; and machinery and equipment for industry: tipper, gasoline generator sets, printers and valves.
Construction material prices fell 0.57%
Finally, the INEI announced that, in August of this year, the Price Index of Construction Materials of Metropolitan Lima fell 0.57%, due to the lower prices observed in electrical supplies (cables for energy and wires and cables for fixed installations); metallic (hot rolled steel tubes, LAC and LAF steel plates, construction nails and rods); plastic pipes and accessories: water tanks, PVC pipes and PVC accessories for water and drainage; bricks (for roof, pastry and king kong); concrete structures (corrugated sheets made of fiber and ready-mix concrete); and binders. On the contrary, flat glasses went up; aggregates (concrete, sand and stone); wood (capirona, screw and chipboard); and majolicas and mosaics.
