Employed Population Of The Country Reached 17 Million 770 Thousand Persons In The Second Quarter 2022

During the second quarter of the year 2022, employed population of the country reached 17 million 770 thousand 900 persons, a higher figure in 5.9% (986 thousand 800 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2021 and compared with the same quarter of the year 2019 (pre-pandemic), increased in 4.6% (778 thousand 500 persons); this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Peru: Behavior of labor market indicators nationwide, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
 
In urban area, employed population increased in 8.2% (1 million 47 thousand 100 persons), meanwhile that in rural area decreased in 1.5% (-60 thousand 400 persons), compared with the same quarter of the year 2021.
 
Female employed population increased in 7.6%
During the second quarter of the year 2022 female employed population increased in 7.6% (561 thousand 200 persons) compared to the same quarter of the year 2021, meanwhile, male employed population increased in 4.5% (425 thousand 500). From the total of employed education of the country 44.7% (7 million 946 thousand 900) are women and 55.3% (9 million 823 thousand 900) are men.
 
Coast Region led employment growth
According to natural region, the Coast led employment growth by increasing in 10.5% (929 thousand 400 persons), in the South Coast increased 11.7% (57 thousand 500 persons), followed by the Center Coast with 10.7% (662 thousand 500 persons) and the North Coast in 9.8% (209 thousand 300 persons).
 
In Highlands employed population increased in 1.4% (79 thousand persons), mainly in the North Highlands that increased 7.4% (68 thousand persons), meanwhile, in the South Highlands the increase was of 1.4% (37 thousand 400 persons); meanwhile that in the Center Highlands decreased 1.2% (-26 thousand 400 persons). In the Jungle employed population decreased in 1.0% (-21 thousand 700 persons).
 
Employed population aged 45 and over increased in 8.7%
According to age group, employed population aged 45 and over increased 8.7% (522 thousand 100 persons), followed by the group aged 25 to 44 years old in 6.7% (539 thousand 700 persons); meanwhile, between the employed population aged 14 to 24 years old decreased 2.7% (-75 thousand 200 persons).
 
Employed population with non-university education increased in 14.9%
During the second quarter of this year, employed population with non-university superior education increased in 14.9% (379 thousand 900 persons), followed by the population with Elementary or lower education level which increased in 6.9% (255 thousand 500 persons), those that have high-school education in 4.1% (301 thousand 100 persons) and employed population with university superior education level in 1.0% (33 thousand 100 persons).
 
In 7.2% increased employed population in establishments of 1 to 10 workers
During the quarter under analysis, employed education in Little economic units of 1 to 10 workers increased in 7.2% (886 thousand 800 persons), compared with the same quarter of the year 2021, followed by the employed population in the establishments of 11 to 50 workers that increased in 6.6% (76 thousand 200 persons) and in the companies of 51 to more workers in 0.3% (8 thousand 600 persons).
 
Fishing and Manufacturing Sectors led employment growth
During the second quarter of the current year, employed population of Fishing and Manufacturing sectors showed a greater growth with 26.4% and 24.0%, respectively, compared with the same quarter of the year 2021, followed by Services with 13.0%, Mining 11.2%, Commerce 2.7% and Construction 3.1% sectors. On the other hand, in Agricultural sector employed population decreased 7.3%.
 
Unemployment rate is 4.0% at national level
During the quarter under analysis, it was registered an unemployment rate of 4.0%. It is estimated that during this period 743 thousand 700 persons looking for a job actively.
 
Wage Mass coming from work increased in 16.2%
During the quarter April-May-June of the year 2022, wage mass coming from work of the employed population of the country, presented a positive variation of 16.2%, compared with the same quarter of the year 2021. Compared with the same quarter of the year 2020 and 2019, wage mass increased in 119.7% and in 7.8%, respectively.
