Production Of Potable Water In Metropolitan Lima Increased 6.8% In June 2022

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in the month of June of the current year, production of potable water in Metropolitan Lima reached 63 211 000 cubic meters, a greater result in 6.8% compared with the same month of 2021, according to the information provided by the Potable Water and Sewerage Service of Lima (SEDAPAL).
 
Rimac and Chillon rivers flow decrease
During the sixth month of the year and according to data provided by the Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI), the average flow of Rimac River reached 18.52 m3/s, a lower level in 18.1% and 15.8% compared with the month of June 2021 and its historic average, respectively.
 
Likewise, the average river flow of Chillon river reached to 1.42 m3/s, a result that represented a reduction of 17.0% and 32.4%, compared to the month of June 2021 and its historic average, respectively.
 
Rivers flow of Pacific slope decreases
In June 2022, the average flow of the main rivers of the of the northern zone of the Pacific Slope totalized 35.85 m3/s, a lower quantity in 10.4% and 19.0% compared to the same month of 2021 and its historic average, respectively. Likewise, the rivers flow of the center zone slope (9.97 m3/s) decreased in 18.0% and 17.3%; and the rivers of the Southern Pacific slope (12.37 m3/s) reported a decrease of 26.8% and 45.0% compared to the month of June 2021 and to its historic average respectively.
 
Puno and Arequipa reported greater intensity of frosts
During the month of June 2022 and according to the monitoring of 16 stations of SENAMHI, the Departments of Puno and Arequipa registered the lowest temperatures. In Puno, the stations of Mazo Cruz (-21.0°C), Macusani (-15.0 °C), Desaguadero (-13.6 °C), Cojata (-12.8 °C), Crucero Alto (-12.6 °C) and Cabanillas (-10.0 °C); and in Arequipa, the stations of Imata (-17.2 °C), Pillones (-16.6 °C), Salinas (-15.2 °C) and Caylloma (-11.6 °C).
 
Also, there were reported low temperatures in the Departments of: Cusco, in the stations of Sicuani (-7.4 °C) and Anta Ancachuro (-7.4 °C); Junin, in the stations of La Oroya (-5.2 °C) and Santa Ana (-3.8 °C); in Tacna, Candarave (-3.8 °C); and in the Department of Huancavelica, in the station of Lircay (-3.1 °C).
 
It increases the concentration of minerals in Rimac River
During the month of April of the current year, the average presence of aluminum reached 4.12 mg/L a greater figure in 216.9% compared with the same month of 2021; likewise, the average quantity of lead (0.035 mg/L) and iron (3,86 mg/L) increased in 191.7% and 153.9%, respectively. Meanwhile, the presence of cadmium represented 0,002 mg/L, a result that did not have variation compared to the same month of the last year.
 
It increases average presence of organic matter in the Rimac River
During April 2022 and according to the information provided by SEDAPAL, the average quantity of organic matter in the Rimac River reached 1,66 mg/L, a greater figure in 22.1% compared with the same month of 2021; meanwhile, the maximum level (5.17 mg/L) increased in 159.8% compared to the month of April 2021.
 
The organic matter expressed as Total Organic Carbon (TOC according to its English acronyms) is the product of organic waste that once were alive, such as plants, animals and products from residues in the natural environment. The organic matter is decomposed by bacteria, protozoan and different microorganisms.
 
Emergencies at national level decreased 63.3%
Finally, the INEI informed that during the month of June 2022 and according to the information provided by the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), nationwide were reported 205 emergencies, a lower figure in 22.8% compared with the same month of 2021. Emergencies left 511 people affected, 407 homes affected, 51 homes destroyed and 62 hectares of crops destroyed.
 
The greater quantity of emergencies were reported in: Lima (24), Amazonas and Piura (16 in each one), Junin (14), Cajamarca and Apurimac (13 in each one), Cuzco, Pasco and Ica (12 in each one), Arequipa (11), Huancavelica (10), Lambayeque (8), Moquegua and Huanuco (6 in each one), ), Constitutional Province of Callao (5), Ucayali (5), Tacna and Tumbes (4 in each one), Loreto and Puno (3 in each one), La Libertad, Ancash, Madre de Dios and Ayacucho (2 in each one); meanwhile, San Martin did not register any emergency.
 
Emergencies were caused mainly by urban fires (82), strong winds (25), frosts (22), heavy rains (19), decrease of temperature (12), landslide (10), collapse by antiquity (6), thunderstorms (winds and rains) (5), hills collapse, water deficit and flood by overflooded channels (4 in each case), flood by overflooded river (3), cold wave (2), drown, bank erosion, forest fires, huaycos, hailstorm and DSNPP hydrocarbons and industrial fires (1 in each case).
