Vehicles Traffic Flow Nationwide Increased In 5.4% In May 2022

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced that during the month of May 2022, the National Rate of Vehicle Traffic flow the one that measures the traffic flow of light and heavy duty vehicles through toll booths increased in 5.4%, compared to the same month of 2021, due to the greater traffic flow of light duty (11.7%); meanwhile, it decreased the traffic flow of heavy duty vehicles (-0.7%) due to the lower traffic flow of heavy duty vehicles of 3 to 7 axle (-2.4%). In the last twelve months of May 2022, this indicator grew in 10.4%.
Traffic flow of light duty vehicles increased in 11.7%
In May 2022, traffic flow of light duty vehicles registered in toll booths across the country, reported an increase of 11.7% compared to the same month of 2021, boosted by the return to workplace,
return to in-person classes, the dynamism of commercial activities due to Mother’s Day, the cancellation of social immobilization Schedule, promotion of tourism and extension of limited capacity to 100% in shopping center; as well as the advancement of the vaccination to the third and fourth doses against COVID-19.
Toll booths with greater traffic flow were: To the north, Piura (Loma Larga Baja 11.4%, Piura Sullana 7.5% and Chulucanas 6.4%), San Martin (Aguas Claras 9.4%), La Libertad (Viru 5.4%, Chicama 4.5% and Pacanguilla 1.6%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucara 4.8%) and Lambayeque (Desvio Olmos 3.6%).
In the south, in Ica (Marcona 32.6% and Jahuay Chincha 4.2%), Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concesion 27.9% and Patahuasi 14.1%), Moquegua (Ilo 20.9% and Pampa Cuellar 2.6%), Apurimac (Pichirhua 12.9%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 10.6%), Puno (Santa Lucia 8.3% and Caracoto 4.5%) y Cusco (Ccasacancha 7.5%).
Also, in the center, in Lima (Pasamayo Serpentine 14.8%, Variant of Pasamayo 9.2% and Corcona 6.2%) and Junin (Quiulla 0.7%).
Traffic flow of heavy duty vehicles decreased in 0.7%
During the month under analysis, traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles through tollbooths across the country slightly decreased in 0.7% compared to the month of May 2021. This happened due to the low demand of this type of units in mining activities as well as in the sectors of manufacturing and Construction due to the slowdown that registered during the month of the analysis.
Toll booths that registered lower traffic flow were: to the north, San Martin (Moyobamba – 26.4%, Pongo -4.7% and Aguas Claras -2.0%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja -13.5%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla – 2.6%). Likewise, in the south, in Moquegua (Ilo -18.9%) an in the center, Junin (Casaracra -1.5%).
Traffic flow of heavy duty vehicles of 3 to 7 axle decreased in 2.4%
During May of 2022, traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles of 3 to 7 axle decreased in 2.4% compared with the same month of the last year. This was explained by the lower traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles, such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy duty trucks of 4 axle (-3.2%) and 6 axle (-6.4%); nevertheless, it increased the traffic flow of 3 axle (3.7%), 5 axle (0.5%) and 7 axle (8.3%).
