Consumer Prices Of Metropolitan Lima Increased 1.19% In June

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in the month of June of this year, the Consumer Price Rate of Metropolitan Lima increased in 1.19% with an accumulated change as of the sixth month of the year of 4.44% and the change of the last twelve months (July 2021 – June 2022) reached 8.81%.
In the technical report “Change of the Indicators of Economy Prices” it is stated that the monthly result was mainly influenced by price surge in the following consumption divisions: Transportation (3,24%) due to the price increase shown by the bus, microbus, shuttle ticket, airplane ticket, common ethanol fuel mixtures, and diesel oil; Food and Non-Alcoholic drinks (1,88%) due to the increase of the hen eggs, gutted chicken and its cuts, fruit like mango, papaya, apple, grapes and cereals like purple corn, oat, bread; Restaurants and Hotels (1,02%) due to the increase in the food and beverages in restaurants like menu, fried rice, chicken stock, pork rind, pasta and pizzas; Health (0,76%) due to the increase in dental service, hospitalizations and medical consultations; Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas (0.75%) due to the price increase in the water service and residential electricity.
In a lesser degree, the price of the following divisions was increased: Various Goods and Services (0,68%), Furniture, Household items and Household Routine Maintenance (0,29%), Alcoholic Drinks, Tobacco and Drugs (0,22%), Clothing and Footwear (0,13%), Education (0,12%) and Entertainment and Culture (0,10%) while prices reduced in Communications (-0,03%).
The price increase of Food and Non-Alcoholic Drinks meet the rising observed in the group milk, cheese and eggs (6,1%) due to the increase of hen eggs (19,7%); meat (2,2%) as gutted hen (4,8%) gutted chicken (4,3%) chicken cuts: leg (2,7%), breast (2,3%), breaded meat (2,3%) chicken trifle (1,9%) and cattle steak; also fruit (1,5%) such as mango (13,8%), papaya (10,6%), white grape (9,0%), granadilla (7,8%), apple – Israel variety (4,7%), standard apple ( 4,5%), watermelon (4,2%), passion fruit (3,8%), and black grape (3,5%), coffee, tea and cocoa in powder (1,2%) and ground roasted coffee (0,8%). Likewise, bread and cereals (1,2%) such as purple corn (16,2%), packed oat (3,2%) plain wheat flour (2,8%), sweet cookies (2,4%) and salted cookies (1,2%), egg yolk bread (2,4%), traditional bread (1,1%) and sweet biscuits (1,9%) and salted biscuits (1,7%); fish and seafood (1,2%) such as bonito (5,0%) mackerel (1,5%) and trout (1,4%); vegetables and beans such as Pepper Chili (15,1%), onion (9,5%), corn (6,9%), cauliflower (4,5%), yellow potato (4,1%), huayro potato (1,3%), white potato (0,9%), beans (1,6%), split dried beans (1,5%), yucca (1,2%), canary beans (1,0%) and whole garlic (1,0%); and oils and grease (0,4%) such as packaged butter (2,0%) and packaged margarine (0,9%).
On the contrary, prices of sugar, jelly, honey, chocolate and sugar sweets decreased (-07%) such as brown sugar (-2,4%) and white sugar (-1,6%).
The price increased in Transportation due to the major prices observed in fuels and lubricants for personal transportation equipment (9,5%) such as common ethanol fuel mixtures (11,0%), diesel oil (5,6%), LPG (3,0%), engine oil (0,7%) and natural gas vehicle (0,7%); road passenger transportation (3,1%) like bus and microbus tickets (6,3%), shuttle (4,0%) and taxi (1,6%); also, air passenger transportation (3,0%) such as international air ticket (3,5%) and national ticket (1,6%)
In Restaurants and Hotels, food service prices increased in restaurants and similar locations (1,1%) such as fried rice (3,1%), hen stock (1,9%), pork rind (1,4%), menu in restaurants (1,3%), pizzas (1,2%), sweet biscuits (1,1%), roasted chicken (0,9%) and ceviche (0,7%); also, beverages service in restaurants and similar locations (0,7%) such as cold beverages (1,5%), hot beverages (0,9%), natural soft drinks (0,8), blended fruit juice (0,8%), beer (0,6%) and mineral water and clean water (0,6%).
In the case of Accommodation, Water, Electricity, Gas and other fuels the following prices were increased: residential drinking water (3,7%) due to the fare sheet since June 01, 2022; products for conservation and maintenance of households (2,4%) such as painting (2,4%); sell charcoal (1,6%); and the residential electricity consumption (0,2%) due to the fare sheet since June 04, 2022, whilst residential natural gas prices decreased (-4,4%) due to the balance of May 07, 2022.
Regarding Health, dental services prices increased (2,1%) such as dentistry service (2,1%) hospital services, clinic and medical centers (1,8%) such as labor medical service and clinical surgery (1,9%) and hospital (0,7%); medical service (1,0%) such as pediatric consultations (2,4%), general medicine (1,7%), gynecology (1,7%) and ophthalmology (1,0%); also, artefacts and therapeutic equipment (1,0%) such as glasses with corrective lenses (1,1%); and the medications (0,2%) such as antiheadache medication (0,8%) glucose-lowering medication (0,8%) over-the-counter antifungal medications (0,8%) and vitamins (0,4%).
Products with more price variation
In June 2022, 586 products that made up the family basket, 426 registered an increase, 94 a decrease and 66 kept their same prices. Among the products with a greater price increase we have hen eggs (19,72%), purple corn (16,21%), chili pepper (15,14%), mango (13,81%), cucumber (12,68%), fuel (10,98%), papaya (10, 59%), and onion (9,54%). On the contrary, the products with less variation in their prices were: blueberries (-10,15%), perico (-8,48%), American green bean (-7,73%), spinach (-7,50%), celery (-7,31%), Chinese onion (-5,28%), avocado (-5,04%) and residential natural gas (-4,36%) .
Products with major impact
The variation in prices during the sixth month of the year was mainly influenced by the increase in bus and minibus fares, foodstuffs such as chicken eggs and eviscerated chicken, restaurant menus and gasohol, which together contributed 0.618 percentage points to the result for June of this year, attenuated in part by the decrease in prices of food products such as blond sugar, avocado, carrot and lemon, as well as residential natural gas.

Consumer prices excluding food and energy increased 0.86%
During the month of June 2022, the variation of the Consumer Price Index of Metropolitan Lima, excluding food and energy (core inflation) increased by 0.86%.
National Consumer Price Index rose 1.03%
In the sixth month of the year, consumer prices nationwide rose 1.03% due to price increases in eleven consumer divisions: Transportation (2.59%), Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (1.61%), Restaurants and Hotels (0.97%), Miscellaneous Goods and Services (0.67%), Health (0.65%), Accommodation, Water, Electricity and Gas (0.57%), Furniture, Household Goods (0.38%), Clothing and Footwear (0.25%), Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco (0.20%), Education (0.12%) and Recreation and Culture (0.11%). Meanwhile, the Communications division showed a slight decrease (-0.01%)
Price variation per city
In the month of June 2022, the twenty-six cities where the Consumer Price Index is calculated registered price increases. The cities with the highest price increases were Metropolitan Lima (1.19%), Arequipa (1.04%), Ayacucho (1.01%), Chimbote (0.98%) and Tacna (0.97%). The cities with the lowest variation were Puerto Maldonado (0.26%), Puerto Maldonado (0.26%), Pucallpa (0.29%) and Moquegua and Moyobamba (0.36% each)
Nationwide wholesale prices rose 0.38%.
During the month of analysis, the Wholesale Price Index increased 0.38%, due to the increase in prices of domestic manufactured products (gasohol, industrial oil, diesel oil, semolina, short pasta noodles)
chicken meat, wheat flour: industrial and domestic, evaporated milk, crackers, detergents and metal containers); agricultural (mango, onion, carrot, corn: starchy, corn and hard yellow corn, potato, cassava, plantain and paddy rice); and livestock (eggs, live poultry: chicken and hen, livestock: pigs and cattle); however, the prices of fishery goods (jack mackerel, perico, cojinova, mullet and cachema) decreased. Imported manufactured goods (polyester fiber, PVC resins, steel plates, binary and nitrogen fertilizers, construction rods, front-end loaders and bulldozers, and transportation vehicles) also fell in price, while prices rose for some imported agricultural goods such as uncarded cotton and lentils.
Prices of Machinery and Equipment in Metropolitan Lima decreased 0.50%
In June 2022, the Machinery and Equipment Price Index for Metropolitan Lima decreased by 0.50%; explained by the negative behavior of the exchange rate, which influenced the prices of capital goods of imported origin, among them, machinery and equipment for agriculture (tractors and imported capital goods, among them, machinery and equipment for agriculture (tractors and mowers); other machinery and equipment (electromedical apparatus and counters); and other machinery and equipment (electromedical devices and electricity meters); machinery and equipment for transportation; and machinery and equipment for industry, such as gasoline generators, telephone exchanges and laundry machines. At In contrast, the prices of capital goods of domestic origin, such as agricultural machinery and equipment, such as picks and spades machinery and equipment for agriculture: picks and lamps; machinery and equipment for industry: electric panels, propane gas cylinders, shelves and desks; and machinery and equipment for transportation: docks for motor vehicles and motorcycle taxisi.
Prices of construction materials increased 0.20%
Finally, INEI reported that in June of this year, the Construction Materials Price Index for Metropolitan Lima rose by 0.20%, mainly due to the increase in prices of two component groups of the indicator, binders (portland cement type V and type I) and flat glass.
