Vehicle Flow Through Toll Points Nationwide Increased 6.0% In April Of This Year

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) announced that, in the month of April 2022, the National Vehicle Flow Index that reports the movement of light and heavy vehicles through toll booths increased 6.0%, compared to the same month of 2021, due to the greater traffic of light units (14.0%); while the circulation of heavy units decreased (-2.1%) due to the lower movement of heavy cargo vehicles with 3 to 7 axles (-3.5%). Likewise, in the last twelve months it grew by 14.3%.
 
Light vehicle traffic expanded by 14.0%
During April 2022, the circulation of light units reported at the country's toll booths registered an increase of 14.0% compared to the same month of 2021, influenced by the return to face-to-face classes (schools, institutes and universities), the return to work centers, the celebration of Holy Week throughout the country, the elimination of curfew hours, the reactivation of tourist activities and attention to businesses with 100% capacity nationwide, added to the progress of the third dose vaccination against COVID-19.
 
The ports of entry that registered the greatest movement were: To the north, San Martín (Moyobamba 32.5%, Aguas Claras 10.2% and Pongo 4.0%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 25.6%, Piura Sullana 16.3 %, Chulucanas 10.2% and Paita 9.8%), La Libertad (Chicama 17.2%, Pacangilla 11.9% and Virú 11.5%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca- Pucará 12.3%), Lambayeque ( Diversion Olmos 10.5%) and Áncash (Huarmey 9.1%).
 
In the south, Moquegua (Ilo 33.0% and Pampa Cuéllar 11.7%), Ica (Marcona 31.0% and Jahuay Chincha 20.6%), Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concession 24.2%, Patahuasi 20.2 % and Matarani-Concession 3.6%), Cusco (Ccasacancha 20.2%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 16.6% and Pampamarca 5.3%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 12.4%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 11.9% and Caracoto 2.0%).
 
Also, in the center, Lima (Variante de Pasamayo 28.6%, Fortaleza 14.0%, El Paraíso 13.7%, Corcona 12.8% and Serpentine of Pasamayo 7.7%).
 
Circulation of heavy vehicles decreased by 2.1%
In the fourth month of this year, the movement of heavy vehicles through the country's toll booths was reduced by 2.1% compared to April 2021, determined by the low demand for this type of unit in the mining activity, due to the strike of heavy cargo carriers that caused the blockade of highways, among other incidents, harming the development of productive activities.
 
The toll booths that presented less traffic were: To the north, San Martín (Moyobamba -15.3% and Aguas Claras -4.4%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja -13.4%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla - 4.4%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará -2.8%) and Lambayeque (Olmos Detour -1.6%). Likewise, in the south, Moquegua (Ilo -0.2%); and in the center, it decreased in Junín (Casaracra -37.5% and Quiulla -33.7%).
 
Movement of heavy vehicles from 3 to 7 axles decreased by 3.5%
In April 2022, the circulation of heavy vehicles with 3 to 7 axles decreased by 3.5%, in relation to the same month of the previous year, explained by the lower displacement of heavy cargo vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy cargo trucks. 4-axis (-3.8%), 5-axis (-0.9%) and 6-axis (-7.0%); however, the circulation of 3-axle (2.1%) and 7-axle (1.7%) vehicles increased.
