Commercial Activity Grew 2.61% In April 2022

In April 2022, the Commerce sector grew by 2.61% when compared to the same month of the previous year, driven by wholesale trade, retail trade and automotive trade, components that evolved positively, in a context of recovery of the economic activities; This was reported by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).
 
It also reported that, in the first four months of this year, this productive sector accumulated growth of 5.06%.
 
Wholesale trade increased by 1.68%
Wholesale trade grew by 1.68% mainly due to the sale of construction materials and hardware items, explained by the higher requirement of real estate projects and public projects. In relation to the sale of textile products, clothing and footwear, these were promoted through fairs such as "Expotextil Peru".
 
Likewise, the sale of plastic materials in its primary form, fertilizers and chemical products for agricultural use and chemical substances for industrial use increased. A similar trend was shown by the sale of household goods; of agricultural raw materials and live animals in the line of grains and seeds, fruits (grapes and blueberries), poultry and animal feed. In addition, the sale of food, beverages and tobacco due to the greater commercialization of basic necessities.
 
On the contrary, the sale of metals and metalliferous minerals, as well as of computers, peripheral equipment and software, decreased.
 
Retail trade grew by 4.79%
Retail trade showed an increase of 4.79% based on the sale of fuel and lubricants for vehicles; the sale of textile products, clothing, footwear and leather goods recorded a positive variation due to the change in season and the expansion of points of sale in Lima and the provinces.
 
Also, the sales in department stores (retail) and the sale of food and beverages in supermarkets, hypermarkets and minimarkets showed positive behavior; the sale of household appliances, furniture, lighting fixtures and other items for the home, especially white goods and entertainment; as well as the sale of books, newspapers and stationery and the sale of optical and veterinary articles.
 
On the other hand, lower sales were recorded in pharmaceutical and medicinal products, cosmetics and toiletries, as well as the sale of food in specialized stores.
 
Automotive trade increased by 4.01%
During April of this year, the automotive trade increased by 4.01% in response to the greater commercialization of light and heavy vehicles and minibuses/buses, explained by the recovery of activities and greater influx of people.
 
However, the maintenance and repair of motor vehicles, the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and their parts, pieces and accessories and the sale of parts and accessories of motor vehicles decreased.
