Production In 12 Departments Increased Above National Production In The First Quarter Of 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, the performance of the economic activity of twelve departments registered favorable developments, higher than the national economy, which grew by 3.8%. Among them, Ica (10.5%), Arequipa (8.2%), Cajamarca (5.8%) and Pasco (5.7%) stood out, due to mining, construction, manufacturing and transportation activities; likewise, Loreto (9.7%) and Cusco (5.1%), driven by the hydrocarbons, transportation, commerce and agriculture and livestock subsectors; Likewise, Tumbes (8.5%), Ucayali (5.3%), Lambayeque (5.0%), Huánuco (4.3%), Puno (4.0%) and Lima (3.9%), due to the impact of the agricultural, commerce and transportation sectors.
 
This was announced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Departmental Productive Activity Indicator. Also, Junin (3.6%), Madre de Dios (3.4%), San Martin (2.2%), Apurimac (2.1%), La Libertad (1.7%), Amazonas (1.2%), Ancash (1.0%), Ayacucho (0.9%) and Tacna (0.6%) reported positive behaviors. Together, these departments contributed 93.8% of the national total. However, it decreased in Moquegua (-10.6%), Huancavelica (-2.4%) and Piura (-1.7%)
 
Mining activity boosted Ica's economy by 10.5%
During the quarter under study, production in the department of Ica increased by 10.5%, making six quarters of positive performance, driven by the progress of mining activity, which recorded higher copper extraction in the company Shouxin Peru and silver in Nexa Resources Peru, added to the contribution of the company Marcobre with the Mina Justa project, which began operations in July 2021; gold production also grew in the company Vista Gold and lead in Nexa Resources Peru; however, the extraction of zinc and iron decreased. The good performance of the Construction sector was explained by the higher investment of Local Governments, such as the works in the multi-sports complex in the Amaprovi sector, district and province of Nasca, and works related to transportation infrastructure; and the National Government, with the rehabilitation and improvement of the Ica-Los Molinos-Tambillos highway. Likewise, in the Transportation sector, passenger and cargo land transportation services grew, encouraged by the "Ruta Segura Ica" guide that promotes tourist attractions (Paracas and Huacachina Lagoon)
 
Loreto's productive activity increased by 9.7%, influenced by the hydrocarbons subsector
The economy of the department of Loreto in the first quarter of 2022 rose by 9.7% and accumulated four consecutive quarters of growth, determined by the hydrocarbons subsector, due to the high exploitation of crude oil in the PetroTal company (lot 95) in well 10H, aided by the contribution of production from wells 9H and
8H, which were drilled in the second half of 2021; in addition, the level obtained by Perenco in lot 67.
The growth of the Transportation sector was reflected in the dynamism of air passenger transportation at the Coronel FAP Francisco Secada Vignetta International Airport (Iquitos), due to the growing demand for flights; river transportation; land transportation of cargo and passengers due to the mobilization of people on the occasion of the celebration of the Anniversary of Iquitos for its 158 years of Foundation as a River Port, associated with the progress of the vaccination against COVID-19; and transportation by pipeline. Meanwhile, the favorable result of the agricultural sector was supported by the increased production of banana, cassava, hard yellow corn, paddy rice and pineapple, as well as poultry, rice, rice and pineapple
 
Mining activity had an impact on the increase in Arequipa's production level
In the first quarter of this year, production in the department of Arequipa increased by 8.2% and showed five quarters of continuous growth, explained by mining activity, which reported higher copper and molybdenum extraction at Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde; silver at Compañía de Minas Buenaventura, Minera Bateas and Minera Veta Dorada; followed by gold, lead and zinc. The economy of the Department of Cajamarca in the first quarter of 2022 increased by 5.8%, registering a growth for five consecutive quarters, influenced by the Construction sector due to the physical progress of works of the Regional Government with the construction of Hospital II-1 of San Ignacio and Hospital II-2 of Jaén, together with the works of educational infrastructure, transportation and sanitation. The expansion of the Transportation sector was supported by the passenger land transportation
