72.4% Of The Population Between 6 And 17 Years Of Age Accessed The Internet

In the first quarter of 2022, 72.4% of children and adolescents between 6 and 17 years of age made use of the Internet service, registering an increase of 6.3 percentage points compared to the same quarter of 2021; this was announced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) through the technical report State of Children and Adolescents, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO).
In the 12 to 17 year-old population, Internet access reached 84.2%; in the 6 to 11 year-old population, 59.7%. These results, compared to the same quarter of 2021, show a greater increase in Internet access in the 6 to 11 year-old population (7.7 percentage points) than in the 12 to 17 year-old population (5.4 percentage points)
74.2% of the population under 18 years of age that learned to speak Spanish as a child accessed the Internet.
According to mother tongue, of the population under 18 years of age that learned to speak Spanish as a child, 74.2% use the Internet; and of those who learned to speak a native language, 47.1%. Compared to the January-February-March quarter of 2021, the population aged 6 to 17 years old who have a native language and access the Internet increased 12.9 percentage points; compared to the same quarter of 2020, it grew 28.4 percentage points; and compared to the same quarter of 2019, it rose 34.2 percentage points.
By sex, from January to March 2022, Internet access of the population aged 6 to 17 years old whose mother tongue is Spanish was higher in women (75.2%) than in men (73.2%); in the case of the population with native mother tongue, access was higher in men (50.8%) than in women (43.6%)
86.0% of the population between 6 and 17 years of age accessed the Internet via cellular phone.
In the quarter under analysis, 86.0% of the population aged 6 to 17 years old accessed the Internet through a cell phone, followed by 29.0% who used the Internet at home, registering increases of 0.8 and 4.3 percentage points, respectively, compared to the first quarter of 2021.
54.6% of the population under 18 years of age sought help for a chronic health problem
During the first quarter 2022, 54.6% of the population under 18 years of age who reported suffering from some chronic health problem sought care at some health facility, with pharmacy being the most frequented (19.5%); however, 45.4% did not seek care.
88.9% of children under 18 years of age have health insurance coverage
In the January-February-March 2022 quarter, 88.9% of children under 18 years of age have health insurance coverage. 65.0% are affiliated only to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), 20.3% to the Social Health Insurance (EsSalud) and 3.6% are affiliated to other health insurances (Private Health Insurance, Armed and Police Forces Insurance, University Insurance, Private School Insurance, other Health Care System)
In rural areas, 93.2% are insured, with the highest coverage system being the SIS, with 88.1%. In urban areas, of the 87.6% of the population under 18 years of age that has health insurance, 58.0% are affiliated only to SIS and 24.9% to EsSalud.
More than half of the population between 14 and 17 years of age is only in school
Of the adolescent population aged 14 to 17 years, 50.2% only study, 22.2% study and work, 16.8% neither study nor work and 10.8% only work. Compared to the same quarter of 2021, the adolescent population studying and working decreased 0.6 percentage points; likewise, compared to the same quarter of 2020, it decreased 1.4 percentage points.
53.1% of households have at least one person under 18 years of age among their members
From January to March 2022, 53.1% of households have at least one person under 18 years of age among their members. Compared to the same quarter of the year 2021, in the urban area it increased by 1.8 percentage points.1.8 percentage points; however, in rural areas it decreased by 3.3 percentage points.
