Vehicle Traffic Through Toll Booths Nationwide Increased 4.5% In March Of This Year

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during March 2022, the Vehicle Traffic Index that measures the traffic of light and heavy vehicles through the tollbooths grew 4,5% compared to the same month in 2021, due to high traffic of the light units (5,7%) and heavy units (3,1%) that was related to more vehicle heavy vehicles traffic from 3 to 7 axes (1,5%) due to high demand on the service of this kind, transport in the agricultural, construction, manufacturing and business sectors.
Circulation of light units grew 5,7%
In the month under analysis, the movement of light units reported at toll booths nationwide recorded an increase of 5.7% compared to March of the previous year. It should be noted that this performance was related to the gradual start of on-site classes, the gradual return to work, the suspension of the social immobilization schedule, the dynamism of tourism, the 100% increase in the capacity of restaurants and businesses, and the COVID-19 vaccination plan.
The checkpoints with the greatest movement were: In the north, Piura (Loma Larga Baja 39.9% and Piura-Sullana 3.5%), San Martín (Moyobamba 11.8% and Pongo 0.6%), La Libertad (Chicama 10.8%, Virú 10.0% and Pacangilla 3.7%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 0.6%).
Similarly, in the south, Moquegua (Ilo 37.1% and Pampa Cuéllar 28.3%), Ica (Marcona 36.9% and Jahuay-Chincha 16.3%), Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concesión 36.7%, Matarani-Concesión 29.3% and Patahuasi 20.4%), Puno (Santa Lucía 16.6% and Caracoto 4.8%), Cusco (Ccasacancha 12.7%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 11.2% and Pampamarca 3.4%) and Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 9.2%).
Also, in the center, Lima (Serpentín de Pasamayo 17.6%, Variante de Pasamayo 14.3%, Corcona 4.8%, Fortaleza 2.7% and El Paraíso 1.8%) and Junín (Quiulla 4.3%).
Heavy vehicle traffic increased by 3.1%
In March of this year, heavy vehicle traffic through the country's toll booths grew by 3.1% compared to the same month in 2021, supported by the positive performance of the national economy (3.8%), mainly in the Agriculture, Construction, Manufacturing and Trade sectors, together with the gradual resumption of economic activities.
The checkpoints reporting the highest vehicle traffic were: To the north, Ancash (Huarmey 15.4%), La Libertad (Virú 14.2%, Chicama 8.7% and Pacangilla 6.7%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca-Pucará 9.5%), Lambayeque (Desvío Olmos 7.6%), Piura (Loma Larga Baja 4.2%, Paita 2.0% and Piura-Sullana 1.7%) and San Martín (Aguas Claras 1.1% and Pongo 0.2%).
Likewise, in the south, Ica (Marcona 29.0% and Jahuay-Chincha 22.8%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 20.3% and Pampamarca 14.8%), Puno (Caracoto 19.8% and Santa Lucía 6.8%), Moquegua (Pampa Cuéllar 15.6% and Ilo 3.9%), Ayacucho (Pampa Cuéllar 15.6% and Ilo 3.9%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 11.9%), Cusco (Ccasacancha 11.3%) and Arequipa (Patahuasi 8.4% and Uchumayo-Concesión 4.8%); and in the center, in Lima (Variante de Pasamayo 60.4%, Fortaleza 15.8%, El Paraíso 14.2%, Corcona 8.8% and Serpentín de Pasamayo 8.5%) and Junín (Casaracra 5.5% and Quiulla 4.7%).
Traffic of heavy vehicles from 3 to 7 axles increased by 1.5%
During March 2022, the circulation of heavy vehicles with 3 to 7 axles increased by 1.5%, compared to the same month of the previous year, due to the increased movement of heavy cargo vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy cargo trucks with 3 axles (13.6%), 4 axles (3.8%) and 7 axles (31.3%), while the movement of vehicles with 5 axles (-0.9%) and 6 axles (-5.1%) decreased.
