Del 16 al 18 de mayo of the current year, the Chief of the National Institute of Statistic and Informatics Mr. Dante Carhuavilca Bonett, participated as an international observer del of the Population, Household and Housing Census of Argentina, first country to carry out a population census after had overcome the most critical stage of pandemic due to COVID-19. The mission of the observers was composed of representatives of the statistics institutes of the Region and international organisms such as the United Nations Population Fund and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean- ECLAC.
The participation of the INEI in such an important statistical activity is of relevance since Argentina had carried out for the first time a Bimodal (virtual and on-site) and De Jure Census, it means that the population was censed in its regular place of residence, where expend the most time of the week; different from a De Facto Census, which collect the information of persons in the place where they are at the moment of the Census Day.
It should be noted that the Chief of the INEI and the international observers especially invited by the Director of the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INDEC, in its Spanish acronym) from Argentina, Lic. Marco Lavagna, participated in different activities prior to the Census Day (May 18) and in the operative work in the field, where more than 600 thousand census-takers visited the households in order to collect the information of the persons that had not completed the questionnaire or to collect the receipts of those that had already being registered in virtual way.
Importance of the participation of the INEI Peru
Given that the methodology traditionally used in Peru for the population registration corresponds to De Facto or De Jure censuses, the completion of the 2022 Population, Household and Housing Census of Argentina is of particular methodological interest for the INEI, because it is a statistical operation at large-scale to be carried out in bimodal format; as well as, the application of technological innovations, that will be extremely useful in the direction and coordination of the future census activities in the country.
