20 de May de 2022 - 4:38 p. m.
In March 2022, the restaurant activity presented a variation of 41.63%, compared to the same month of the year 2021, driven by the growth of its four components; this was announced by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). It also informed that in the first quarter of this year, this sector accumulated a growth of 47.83%.
It is worth mentioning that this activity took place within the regulatory framework referred to the extension of the National State of Emergency until March 31, 2022, according to Supreme Decree Nº016-2022-PCM, which establishes new measures for the reestablishment of social coexistence.
The restaurant group increased by 55.26%
During the month under study, the restaurant group showed an increase of 55.26% due to the dynamism shown in the categories of poultry, fast food, restaurants, chifas, coffee restaurants, cevicherías, meat and grills and tourist restaurants, as a result of effective advertising strategies in social networks, rewards for consumption, customer loyalty, online customer service, in-room service, delivery service, removal of capacity restrictions and curfew nationwide.
Italian food, international food, Japanese food, ice cream parlors, Creole food, pizzerias, sandwich shops and candy stores also grew in response to the reopening of branches and expansion of spaces.
Beverage service increased by 73.61%
Last March, the beverage service reported a growth of 73.61% due to the performance of the bar-restaurant, cafeteria, juice shop, discotheque and bar businesses, as a result of the elimination of the curfew that favored night activity, live music shows, commercial alliances with different private sector companies, promotions and discounts on beverages, desserts and snacks, and the creation of a new business model for the beverage industry.
Other food service activities grew by 5.27%
The INEI reported that other food service activities increased by 5.27%, supported by the dynamism of food concessionaires with the renewal and acquisition of new food service contracts in companies in the electricity sector, manufacturing, cement companies, shopping centers, telecommunications companies, clinics, hospitals and ministries, in line with the progressive recovery of economic activities, within the framework of the extended declaration of the State of National Emergency.
Also, the supply of meals for contractors (food services to air and land transportation companies) increased due to the increase in trips linked to the good performance of the tourist activity, both domestic and foreign, in the national territory.
78.20% increase in the supply of meals on demand
In March of this year, catering increased by 78.20% due to the higher demand for food preparation and distribution services for public and private events, such as buffets, banquets, executive breakfasts, conferences, conventions and corporate refreshments.
