Lima Metropolitan area: San Juan de Lurigancho is the district with the greater quantity of marriages

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in Lima Metropolitan area were registered 22,810 marriages and 9,342 divorces during 2024, being the district of San Juan de Lurigancho the one with greater quantity with 1,923 and 610, respectively, according to information of the National Registry of Identification and Civil Status (Reniec).
Regarding marriages, it follows in the list the districts of Santiago de Surco (1,663), San Martín de Porres (1,282), Comas (1,273), San Juan de Miraflores (1,159), Villa María del Triunfo (1,077), Ate (915), Los Olivos (897), Lima (815), Villa El Salvador (773) and Miraflores (762). On the other hand, the districts of Santa María del Mar (9), San Bartolo (18), Pucusana (21), Punta Negra (43), Punta Hermosa (47), Santa Rosa (62) and San Luis (92) showed lower registration of marriages.
Moreover, the districts that registered the greater quantity of divorces in 2024 were San Martín de Porres (599), Santiago de Surco (536), Comas (506), Los Olivos (504), Lima (458), San Juan de Miraflores (413) and Chorrillos (363); meanwhile that the district with a lower registration of divorces were Santa María del Mar (4), Pucusana (7), San Bartolo and Punta Hermosa (8 in each case), Punta Negra (13), Santa Rosa (21), Ancón (39) and Cieneguilla (42).
More marriages were registered in Lima Metropolitan area, Arequipa and Piura
At national level, Lima Metropolitan area gathered the greater quantity of marriages registered in 2024, with 22,810, followed by Arequipa (4,934), Piura (3,602), Cusco (3,495), the Constitutional Province of Callao (3,092) and La Libertad (3,023). On the other hand, where it celebrated lower marriages were in Madre de Dios (281), Tumbes (449), Huancavelica (465), Amazonas (508), Pasco (525), Moquegua (560) and Apurímac (755).
Regarding the divorces, the greater quantity was registered in Lima Metropolitan area (9,342), followed by the Constitutional Province of Callao (1,281), Lambayeque (695), the Region Lima (643), Arequipa (592) and La Libertad (537). On the other hand, the lower divorces were registered in Pasco (34), Huancavelica (36), Amazonas (48), Madre de Dios (62) and Apurímac (64).
Marriages dissolved by divorce had an average duration of 15 years
During the year 2024, the marriages dissolved by divorce had an average duration of 15 years: from the total of divorces 22.8% had an average duration of 6 years of marriage; 19.5% occurred after 31 and more years of union and 16.2% after 11 to 15 years of union.
Likewise, the statistics revealed that, in the year 2023, marriages dissolved in the lower period of time (until 3 years of duration) increased by 1.8 percentage points; and divorces in the greater in the greater time (31 and more years) increased in 1.0 percentage point.
The rate of breakdowns of marriage bond during 2024 was approximately 25 divorces for each 100 marriages registered. Compared to the year 2023, that registered a minimum increase of 0.2 divorces, keeping stable.
