In the third quarter of 2025,91.3% of the population of 6 years old and older used a cellphone

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that at national level and during the third quarter of 2025, informed that, at national level and during the third quarter of 2025, 83.6% of men of six years old and older used the Internet, a higher figure than the registered in the case of women (80.9%).


Regarding the activities performed by the population who are Internet users, 91.0% accessed to the network to communicate, either through electronic mail, instant messaging or social network. Likewise, 90.7% used the Internet with recreational purposes, such as videogames or download movies or music, meanwhile that 80.8% used it for searching and getting information.


By analyzing the results by sex, usage patterns are similar between men and female. 90.8% of men and 91.3% of women used the Internet to communicate. Regarding to recreational activities, the use was slightly higher between men (91.6%), against the 89.8% registered in women.


Young people and young adults lead the use of the Internet
According to age groups, greater levels of use of the Internet were registered between the young population and young adult population. In the third quarter of 2025, 95.8% of persons between 19 and 24 years old used the Internet, followed by the group between 25 and 40 years old (94.2%) and the group between 12 and 18 years old (92.4%). On the other hand, the use was lower between the children between 6 and 11 years old (64.9%) and in the population of 60 years old and older (51.2%).


Likewise, according to the age group, the use of Internet for communication purposes is most frequent in persons of 25 years old and older, reaching the 97.8%; meanwhile that in the group between 6 and 24 years old this proportion was of 79.6%, predominating the recreative or academic use.


More than 90% of the population use the mobile telecommunication
According to the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), during the third quarter of 2025, 91.3% of the population of 6 years old and older used the cellphone, figure that represents an increase of 0.5% compared to the same period of 2024.


By residence area, the use of mobile telecommunication was higher in Lima Metropolitan area (93.7%), followed by the rest urban area (92.6%) and rural area (83.6%). Regarding the sex, the use of the Internet was similar between men (9.6%) and women (91.1%).


Education level continues being a determining factor: 99.2% of persons with university superior education level and 99.0% with non-university superior education level used the cellphone. On the other hand, the proportion was of 81.8% between those that have primary or lower education level.


By age groups, the greater levels of use of mobile telecommunication were registered between the population of 12 to 59 years old, with coverages higher than 90%. Meanwhile, the use was lower in children between 6 to 11 years old (67.5%) and in adults of 60 years old and older (82.7%).
