Lima registered a very high level of solar ultraviolet radiation in December of 2025

The city of Lima registered a value of 8 in the average of ultraviolet radiation in December of 2025, very high exposure category for health and represented a 33.3% higher than the registered in December of 2023 (6), this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), according to the data reached by the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI).


The last technical report Environmental Statistics also reveals, that on Sunday 7th of 2025 it reached the maximum value of radiation (10), considered as an exposure category of very high for health and compared to the monthly maximum value of 2023 (8), represented an increase of 25.0%.


It is worth to mention that from June of 2024 to March of 2025, SENAMHI did not register information compared to the ultraviolet radiation rates due to the maintenance of the meteorological station, for this reason we do not have indicators for December of 2024.


Emergencies decreased 31.6% at national level
According to information of the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI), in December of 2025 were registered 423 emergencies at national level, representing a decrease of 31.6% compared to the same month of 2024 (618). These left 12 deceased persons, 70 injured persons, 8,159 harmed people, 1221 affected people, 1,134 affected homes, 145 homes and 828 hectares cultivated land destroyed.


The departments where were registered the greater quantity of emergencies were: Apurímac (50), Cusco (43), Lima (36), Cajamarca (35), Ucayali (26), Huánuco (24), Piura (21), Huancavelica and San Martín (20 each one), Ancash (18), Pasco (16), Amazonas and Tacna (14 each one), Arequipa and Loreto (12 each one), La Libertad (11), Ica and Junín (10 each one), Puno (9), Lambayeque and Tumbes (5 each one), Ayacucho and Madre de Dios (4 each one), Moquegua (3) and the Constitutional Province of Callao (1).


These emergencies were caused by urban and industrial fires (153), strong winds (122), Heavy rains (65), low temperatures (24), landslides (15), floods (7), forest fires, erosions, earthquake and electric storms (6 in each case), collapse of hillside (5), collapse of structure by human activity (3), accidents of land transport and huaycos (2 in each case) and vandalism (1).

River’s flow and precipitations decrease throughout Peru
During December of 2025, the average flow of Rimac River totalized 25,34 cubic meters per second (m³/s), that represented a reduction of 9.3% compared to its historic average (27,94 m³/s) and a reduction of 33.4% compared to the same month of the last year (38,03 m³/s).

Likewise, the average flow of Chillon River reached 2,23 m³/s, that represented a decrease of – 58.1% compared to its historic average (5,32 m³/s) and a reduction of 72.9% compared to the same month of the last year (8,24 m³/s). Regarding Mala River, it reached 1,55 m³/s in December of 2025, meanwhile in December of 2024 had an average of 21.14 m³/s.

SENAMHI informed that the same panorama is observed regarding to the level of precipitations in Peru, except from the registered in the station Aguaytía Bridge (Ucayali), where the average of precipitations registered was of 658,10 millimeters, showing an increase of 33.9% compared to December 2024 (491,40 mm); as well as in the Ilave station of the Titicaca Lake, which had an increase of 929.2% compared to December 2024 (11,30 mm).

Lowest temperatures in Arequipa, Puno and Junín
Information of SENAMHI also reveals that in December of 2025 were registered the lowest temperatures in Arequipa, Puno and Junín, according to the monitoring of 12 stations placed in these regions, besides of Pasco.

In Arequipa, the station Pillones registered -11,2 grades Celsius (°C), meanwhile the following stations: Salinas and Imata registered -8.6 °C and Tisco station -5.1 °C. In Puno, Mazo Cruz station registered -9.0 °C, Crucero Alto station -7.4 °C, Cojata station -2.9 °C, Santa Rosa station -2.6 °C and Desaguadero station -0.4 °C; meanwhile that in Junín, Laive station registered -7.9 °C and La Oroya station - 6,1 °C.

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) published monthly the technical report Environmental Statistics, document that offers data and indicators for monitoring of environmental politics, covering subjects such as, air, water, residues, biodiversity and climate change, with official information of the National Service of Meteorology and Hydrology (SENAMHI), the Service of Potable Water and Sewerage Service of Lima Metropolitan area (SEDAPAL), Companies Providing Sanitation Services (EPS) and the National Institute of Civil Defense (INDECI).
