Lima Metropolitan area concentrates the 42.2% of the companies that are in the country

Within the framework of the 491st anniversary of the foundation of Lima, City of the Kings, the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that in Lima Metropolitan area are 1 million 425 thousand 848 companies, which represented the 42.2% of the total of companies at national level.
According with the Central Company and Establishment Directory of the INEI, as of the third quarter of 2025, the business structure of the capital is mainly comprised by micro-enterprises (95.3%), followed by small companies (3.8%); and medium and big companies (1.0%).
According to the economic activity, 43.7% of the companies is dedicated to commerce and repair of automotive vehicles and motorcycles. Followed by other services (18.7%), professional, technical services and business support (10.4%), manufacturing industry (8.7%), food and beverage services (6.4%), transportation and storage (5.9%), construction (2.7%) and information and communications (2.2%), among the main activities.
Lima Cercado concentrates the largest number of companies
By district, Lima (116,004) concentrates the 8.1% of existing companies in the capital city, followed by San Juan de Lurigancho (108,275) with 7.6%, San Martín de Porres (96,550) with 6.8%, La
Victoria (81,505) with 5.7% and Santiago de Surco (79,225) that represented the 5.6% of the companies in the capital city.
Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area exceeds 5,6 million of persons
According to the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN) 2025, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 621 thousand 313 persons. From this total, 3 million 59 thousand 158 corresponds to men and 2 million 562 thousand 156 to women.
By economy activity, 3 million 139 thousand 283 persons are working in services sector, 1 million 241 thousand 570 in commerce, 755 thousand 578 in manufacturing and 415 thousand 743 in construction.
Almost 17 million of persons in Lima Metropolitan area were transported in the Line 1 of Lima Metro
According to the information provided by the Urban Transportation Authority (ATU) as of September of 2025, a total of 16,792.298 persons uses the Line 1 of Lima Metro as mean of transportation.
In Lima were registered more than 72 thousand 500 were registered more than 72 thousand 500 private vehicles
As of 2024, in the city of Lima were being registered 75,539 private vehicles, 25,798 powered vehicles for the transportation of goods, 3,233 non-powered vehicles for the transportation of goods, 2,665 vehicles for taxis and colectivos (shared taxis); and 1,045 for urban and inter-urban transportation, among the main ones.
The large majority of the population of Lima Metropolitan area has secondary education level
According to National Household Survey (ENAHO) 2024, in Lima Metropolitan area, 47.8% of the population of 15 years old and older has secondary education level; 24.1% has university superior education level (including postgraduate studies); 17.3% has non-university superior education level; and 10.8% has primary or lower education level.
Regarding the use of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), 88.9% of the population of 6 years old and older uses the Internet, 92.6% use the cellphone and 80.9% has their own cellphone. Regarding to the access of basic services, according to the National Survey of Budgetary Programs (ENAPRES) 2024, 92.4% of Lima Metropolitan areas’ population has water service through public network, meanwhile that 91.0% has sewerage service or other ways of sanitary disposal.
In Lima Metropolitan area, the greater consumption of foods corresponds to potato, chicken and rice
According to the ENAHO, foods of greater consumption inside the household per person in Lima Metropolitan area are: potato (52,2 kg), rice (43,6 kg), chicken meat and other poultry (33,6 kg), mandarin, orange and papaya (25,2 kg), vegetables and legumes (23,9 kg) and mineral water and juices (20,5 liters), among others.
Outside home, the most consumed foods include chicken with rice, Chaufa rice of chicken, grilled chicken with French fries, ceviche, fish filet with rice and chicken stew with rice, among other dishes.
