Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area grew 3.0% in 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the year 2025, the employed population in Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 621 thousand 300 persons, which represented a growth of 3.0% (162 thousand 100 persons) compared to the year 2024.
According to thetechnical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared based in the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN), the male employed population increased by 4.0% (116 thousand 300 persons), meanwhile the female employed population grew by 1.8% (45 thousand 800 persons), compared to the last year.
Employed population of 45 years old and older grew 8.0%
According to age group, in 2025, the employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 8.0% (165 thousand 500 persons), followed by the group of 25 to 44 years old, that grew by 2.4% (63 thousand 600 persons). On the other hand, the employed population of 14 to 24 years old decreased by 9.5% (-67 thousand persons)
Employed population increased by 3.6% in Manufacturing
In 2025, compared to 2024, the employed population increased by 3.6% in Manufacturing (26 thousand 100), in Services by 3.0% (92 thousand 200), in Construction by 3.0% (12 thousand 100) and in Commerce by 2.2% (26 thousand 700).
In companies of 11 to 50 employees, employed population increased 16.1%
During the year under analysis, employed population increased in companies of 11 to 50 employees by 16.1% (96 thousand 600) and in companies of 51 and more employees by 5.4% (81 thousand 600); meanwhile, it decreased in companies of 1 to 10 employees by 0.5% (-16 thousand 200), compared with 2024.
Population with suitable employment reached 3 million 661 thousand 500 persons
In 2025, the population with suitable employment was of 3 million 661 thousand 500 persons and compared to the year 2024 showed an increase of 11.9% (388 thousand).
On the other hand, underemployed population reached 1 million 959 thousand 800 persons for the period under analysis, figure that compared with 2024 registered a decrease of 10.3% (-226 thousand).
Unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area was of 5.9%
During the year 2025, unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.9%, inferior percentage in 0.5 percentage point compared to the registered in 2024 (6.4%). In terms of absolute figures, it estimated that 352 thousand 500 persons actively sought an employment.
Average monthly income coming from work in Lima Metropolitan area grew by 9.1%
During 2025, the average monthly income coming from work of the main activity in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 2 220,0 Soles, which meant an increase of 9.1% (184.6 Soles), compared to 2024.
Employed population during the fourth quarter grew by 5.9%
During the fourth quarter of 2025, employed population increased by 5.9% (326 thousand 300), compared to the same quarter of the year 2024. Likewise, the male employed population grew by 5.6% (166 thousand 800) and the male employed population grew by 6.3% (159 thousand 500), compared to the same quarter of 2024.
Employed population of 45 years old and older grew by 12.0%
According to age group, during the last quarter of 2025, the employed population increased by 12.0% (259 thousand 500) in the age group of 45 years old and older and the population of 25 to 44 years old increased by 3.2% (87 thousand 400) compared to the same quarter of 2024; meanwhile the employed population of 14 to 24 years old decreased by 3.1% (-20 thousand 500).
Commercial activity led the creation of employment
During the fourth quarter of 2025, employed population increased by 8.7% (107 thousand 600) in the branch of Commerce, by 6.2% (189 thousand 500) in Services, by 1,4% (10 thousand 200) in Manufacturing and by 0.6% (2 thousand 500) in Construction; compared to the same quarter of 2024.
Employed population in establishments of 1 to 10 employees increased by 3.4%
During the quarter October-November-December of 2025, increased the employed population in establishments of 1 to 10 employees by 3.4% (113 thousand 100), in establishments of 11 to 50 employees by 11.4% (73 thousand 800) and in establishments of 51 to more employees by 9.1% (139 thousand 500), compared to the same period of 2024.
Population with suitable employment grew by 11.1%
During the fourth quarter of 2025, 3 million 865 thousand 300 persons had a suitable employment and compared to the same quarter of 2024 registered a growth of 11.1% (386 thousand 200). On the other hand, the underemployed population decreased by 2.9% (-59 thousand 700).
Unemployment rate placed in 5.0% during the last quarter of 2025
During the fourth quarter of 2025, the unemployment rate placed in 5.0%, inferior percentage in 0.5 percentage point compared to the registered in the same period of 2024 (5.5%).
