INEI: Consumer prices in Lima Metropolitan area increased 1.51% in 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the year 2025, the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area registered an increase of 1.51% with an average monthly rate of 0.12%, result that evidence the variation of prices that remained within the target range estimated for the year that ended.

In the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy is shown that the annual result was determined by the increase observed in the following consumption divisions: Foods and non-alcoholics beverages (1.68%), Restaurants and hotels (2.70%) and Education (4.03%). In lower measure it increased the following consumption divisions: Goods and different services (2.68%), Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance(2.48%), Transportation (1.05%), Clothing Items and Footwear (1.37%), Recreation and culture (1.98%), Alcoholic beverage, tobacco and (0.95%) and Health (0.65%).

On the other hand, the divisions of Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-2.34%) and Communications (-1.53%) decreased their prices.

During the year 2025, the increase of prices of the division of Foods and non-alcoholic beverages was mainly influenced by the increase in coffee, tea and cacao (11.3%) due to the variation observed in grounded toasted coffee (27.6%), instant coffee (12.0%) and chocolate products (11.4%). In addition, it increased the following products: fruits (7.7%) such as papaya (40.2%), sweet cucumber (33.1%), mango (29.6%), passion fruit (27.9%), blueberries (18.1%), regular apple (11.1%), melon (10.3%), strong avocado (9.9%), lemon (9.3%), black grape (8.4%) and orange juice (7.5%).

Likewise, increase of prices was reported in the division fishes and seafood (6.9%) such as mackerel (41.2%), hake (20.6%), sea bass (14.3%), Bonito fish (12.2%), mullet (10.8%), horse mackerel (7.4%) and trout (6.6%); vegetables and legumes including potato and other tubers (5.3%) such as green onions (121.3%), Escabeche yellow pepper (105.3%), carrot (43.6%), yuca (22.3%), beet (21.4%), celery (15.1%), squash (13.4%), cauliflower (13.1%), onion (12.0%), green fava bean (11.5%), hot sweet pepper (11.3%) and yellow potato (9.5%).


Likewise, mineral waters, soft drinks, fruits and vegetable juices (3.2%), such as, packaged soft drinks (4.4%), still mineral water (4.1%) and carbonated beverages (3.8%); in addition, milk, cheese and eggs (0.4%) such as UHT fresh milk (5.5%), fresh pasteurized milk (4.4%), yogurt of whole milk (4.8%) and skim milk (4.2%); nevertheless, the prices of chicken eggs decreased (-4.7%).


Meanwhile that it reduced the prices of sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and sugar sweets (-5.1%) such as brown sugar (-19.0%) and white sugar (-12.3%); and meat (-1.3%) such as eviscerated hen (-5.4%), eviscerated chicken (-3.9%), chicken cuts: leg (-4.1%), wings (-3.2%) and breast (-3.0%).


The increase in the price of the division Restaurants and hotels was due to the increase in the beverage service in restaurants and se similar facilities (2.7%) such as carbonated beverages (3.3%), hot beverages (2.9%) and served beer (2.3%); and service of food in restaurants and similar facilities (2.7%) such as tamales (6.9%), ceviche (4.5%), Chaufa rice (4.4%), sandwiches (4.3%), Creole dishes (3.6%), Broaster chicken (2.6%), menu in restaurants (2.5%), breakfast in restaurants (2.5%), Grilled chicken (2.0%) and grilled meat (1.8%).


In Education outstood in the secondary school (5.4%) due to the expense in the registration process of non-state secondary education level (5.9%), non-state education monthly payment of secondary education (5.4%); likewise, pre-school education level and primary education level (5.0%) such as the non-state education monthly payment for: primary (5.4%) and early education (4.5%); and the expense in process of out-of-state tuition exemption of: early education (5.1%) and primary (4.1%) education level.

In addition it increases the prices of tertiary education (3.3%) such as the expense in the registration process of non-state university undergraduate education (5.8%), non-state superior institute (5.0%) and the monthly payment of non-state university undergraduate education (3.9%); and the post-secondary education level, non-tertiary education level (2.0%) as well as the expense in the registration process – CETPRO non-state (3.2%) and the monthly payment of technique-productive education level (1.9%).

The reduction of prices in Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was based in the lower prices of consumption of residential natural gas (-10.4%), consumption of residential electricity (-8.2%) and domestic propane gas (-6.3%). Meanwhile, it increased the prices of municipal excise taxes (5.4%) and the consumption of residential potable water (0.8%) due to the current fare system since January 1st of 2025.

Products with high incidence in the annual variation
During the year 2025, the variation of prices was mainly influenced by the increase of the menu in restaurants, omnibus and microbus fare, non-state university undergraduate monthly payment and non-state primary education monthly payment and papaya, that together contributed with 0.590 percentage points to the annual result; nevertheless, the result was dimmed by the decrease of the electric fares and the mobile phone, foods such as brown sugar and eviscerated chicken; and gasohol.

Products with greater variation of prices during the year 2025
In 2025, of the 586 products that make up the family basket, 465 increased their price, 103 decreased their price and 18 did not show variation. Products that registered the greater increase were: green onion (121.32%), Escabeche yellow chili pepper (105.30%), grounded yellow chili pepper (50.19%), carrot (43.56%), mackerel (41.23%), papaya (40.20%), mango (29.58%) and passion fruit (27.87%).

Those that decreased their prices were: coriander (-33.78%), brown sugar (-19.05%), liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) (-18.10%), Canary bean (-15.07%), parrot fish (-13.10%), white sugar (-12.33%), dried maize corn (-11.70%) and white potato (-10.44%).


Consumer prices at national level grew by 1.30% in 2025
In 2025, the Consumer Price Index at National Level grew 1.30% due to the increase observed in Foods and non-alcoholic beverages (1.03%), Restaurants and hotels (2.70%), Transportation (0.61%), Education (4.05%), Goods and different services (2.54%), Furniture, household and routine household maintenance items (179%), Recreation and culture (1.76%), Clothing items and footwear (0.96%), Health (1.07%) and Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (1.43%). On the other hand, it decreased the prices of the divisions of Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-2.02%) and Communications (-1.79%).


Iti s worth to mention that, during the month of December of 2025, the Price Index at National Level increased by 0.21%.


Annual variation of prices by cities
In the one-year period ending, twenty-one cities, where is calculated the Consumer Price Index, registered increase of prices. The cities with higher increase were Piura (2.00%), Ayacucho (1.88%), Ica (1.84%), Lima Metropolitan area (1.51%) and Huancayo (1.32%). Meanwhile that five cities registered negative result: Moyobamba (-0.66%), Huancavelica (-0.56%), Cajamarca (-0.41%), Cerro de Pasco (-0.06%) and Huaraz (-0.03%).


Consumer prices of Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.24% in December of 2025
During the last month of 2025, the Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area increased 0.24%, due to the greater prices registered in the following divisions: Transportation (1.57%), Recreation and culture (0.32%), Furniture, household items and routine household maintenance (0.31%), Goods and different services (0.22%), Restaurants and Hotels (0.14%), Clothing items and footwear (0.12%), Health (0.10%), Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (0.06%); and Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (0.04%). Meanwhile, the division Education registered a slight increase (0.01%).


On the other hand, it decreased the price of the division Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.11%) and Communications (-0.07%).


The reduction of prices in the division Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages was mainly based, in the decreased observed in fishes and seafood (-21.3%), such as Bonito fish (-40.4%), horse mackerel (-26.5%), Parrot fish (-24.3%), Lisa fish (-12.7%), sea bass (-8.3%), hake (-6.8%) and mackerel (-6.2%); likewise, other food products (-0.5%) such as cinnamon (-6.6%), ginger (-4.4%), hydrated dressings (-3.6%) and coriander (-2.2%); and sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and sugar sweets (-0.4%) such as brown and white sugar (-1.5%).


On the other hand, it increased the prices of meat (3.0%) such as eviscerated chicken (6.2%), chicken cuts: leg (4.1%), wings (4.1%), breast (3.1%); cuts of pork: belly (5.1%), ribs (4.6%), leg (3.5%) and chop (2.0%). In addition, milk, cheese and eggs (2.0%) such as hen eggs (7.6%); vegetables, legumes including potatoes and other tubers (1.2%) such as green onion (74.9%), leek (16.4%), celery (9.2%), potato: Huayro (7.5%), yellow (5.9%), color (1.3%), spinach (5.5%), green fava bean (5.4%), broccoli (5.0%), corn (4.7%), yuca (4.0%), Escabeche yellow chili pepper (3.6%) and yellow sweet potato (3.6%).

Likewise, it increased the prices of mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and legumes juices (0.2%) such as still mineral water (0.7%), non-carbonated water (0.3%) and carbonated beverages (0.2%); and fruits such as passion fruit (30.4%), mandarin (13.6%), blueberries (6.9%), strawberry (6.7%), table orange (4.6%), juice orange (2.0%) and papaya (2.2%); meanwhile, it decreased the prices of lemon (-15.8%), strong avocado (-8.1%), watermelon (-6.7%), white grape (-6.5%) and mango (-4.6%).


In Restaurants and hotel increased the prices of food service in restaurants and similar facilities (0.2%) such as Chaufa rice (0.8%), Ceviche (0.4%), pizzas (0,4%), seafood dishes (0.3%), grilled chicken (0.2%), sandwiches (0.2%) and menu in restaurants (0.1%).


In Transportation it increased the prices of transportation of passengers by air (8.9%) such as domestic flight ticket (26.0%) and international (3.0%); transportation of passengers by road (1.7%) such as fare in interprovince omnibus (34,6%), taxi (2.0%), moto-taxi (1.1%), omnibus and microbus (0.6%), combi (0.4%); Diesel petroleum (0.4%), and natural vehicular gas (0.3%). Meanwhile, it decreased the prices of liquefied petroleum gas (-0.2%) and gasohol (-0.1%).


Wholesale prices at national level decreased 0.07% during the month of December of 2025
During the las month of 2025, the Wholesale Prices Index at National Level reduced by 0.07% due to the lower prices registered in the fishing sector (Bonito fish, parrot fish, mackerel, Lisa fish, hake, horse mackerel, shrimp and trout) and agriculture sector (lemon, tomato, watermelon, mango, grape, paddy rice and potato). On the other hand, it increased the prices of livestock products (live chicken, eggs, beef cattle and swine) and manufactured (steel profiles, pneumatics for trucks, gasohol, brick, Pandereta brick, chicken meat, refined soybean oil, wheat flour and evaporated milk) showed increase of prices.


Likewise, the prices of imported goods decreased, both in the manufacturing sector (polyethylene resins, PVC and polypropylene, nitrogen fertilizers, carbon black, steel sheets, construction rods, cyanide, bulldozer and Diesel oil) such as in the imported agriculture products (lentil, non-carded cotton, wheat, non-toasted malt and hard yellow corn).


In 2025, the national wholesale prices decreased 3.83%.

Prices of machinery and equipment decreased 0.33% in December of 2025
In the last month of the year, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment reduced by 0.33% influenced by the decrease of the exchange rate that influenced in the prices of the capital Good of national origin, mainly in the machinery and equipment for transportation (moto-taxi, car bodies and springs for automotive vehicles), the industry (drills for excavation, gas cans and electric transformers) and other machinery (nets for a catch and stretchers-beds for medical treatment); on the other hand, the machinery and equipment for agriculture did not registered variation.


Likewise, the imported capital goods registered a decrease in their prices, outstanding the machinery and equipment for agriculture (tractors and shovels), transportation (automotive vehicles for transportation of persons, pick-up trucks, oil and air filters), industry (laptop computers, bulldozers and wheel loaders) and other machinery (different electricity meters and electromedical devices).


In 2025, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment decreased 7.18%.


Prices of construction materials decreased 0.20% in the last month of 2025
During the month of December of 2025, the Price Index of Construction Materials decreased 0.20% due to the low prices in eight of the ten groups that are part of the indicator, outstanding electrical supplies (energy cables, fixed and telephone installations), metallics (construction rods, wire rod, LAF and LAC steel sheets and nails), glasses (templated glasses), concrete structures (corrugated sheets of fiber and sheets of gypsum wallboard), bricks (Pandereta brick and for roof), tubes and plastic accessories (water tanks and PVC accessories for water and sewerage), woods (oak and Capirona wood) and binders (Portland cement type I). On the other hand, it registered increase of prices the group tiles and mosaics (wall coating) and aggregates (sand and stone).


In 2025, this indicator showed a reduction of 1.77%.
