93.9% of the country’s population has some health insurance in the third quarter of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that, during the third quarter of 2025, 93.9% of the population informed that they have some type of health insurance, compared to the same quarter of the last year (90.6%) that meant an increase of 3.3 percentage points.
In the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, prepared with the results of the National Household Survey (ENAHO), informed that the access to a health insurance reached 95.4% of the population of the rural area and to the 93.6% of the population that lives in the urban area, with increases of 1.7 and 3.7 percentage points, compared to the third quarter of 2024.
According to insurance type, at national level, the greater access corresponded to those that only have the Comprehensive Health Insurance (64.9%), proportion that increased in 2.6 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (62.3%).
Likewise, 59.6% of the population that lives in the urban area and 88.4% in the rural area, have this service and registered increases of 3.0 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same period of the last year.
Population of 50 years old and older registered a greater incidence of chronic diseases
At national level, the greater incidence of chronic diseases was registered in the population of 60 years old and older (81.2%) and in the population of 50 to 59 years old (65.9%); compared to the third quarter of 2024 registered increases of 2.0 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively.
A same trend was registered in the urban area where the population, with this this kind of affliction of 60 years old and older went from 78.8% to 82.4% and population of 50 to 59 years old went from 63.6% to 66.5% which meant growths of 3.6 and 2.9 percentage points, respectively.
On the other hand, in the rural area the population of 60 years old and older with similar problems decreased from 80.6% to 76.8% and the population of 50 to 59 years old from 67.7% to 63.4%, with reductions of 3.8 and 4.3 percentage points, respectively.
61.4% of the population of 18 years old and older has some account in the financial system
During the quarter under analysis, 61.4% of the population of 18 years old and older, has some account in the financial system (saving account, remuneration account, fixed-term account or current account), superior percentage in 2.9 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year (58.5%).
The greater percentage variation, was registered in the urban area in 3.1 percentage points, by growing from 62.3% to 65.4% and in the rural area in 2.1 percentage points, by increasing from 40.0% to 42.1%.
Net rate of school attendance to primary education level of the population of 6 to 11 years old was of 98.2%
During the third quarter of 2025, the net rate of school attendance of girls and boys of 6 to 11 years to primary education level reached 98.2%. At level of residence area, the rate of school attendance to primary education level was of 98.0% in urban area and of 99.1% in rural area.
19.4% of the households of the urban area had a car or a truck
During the third quarter of 2025, 19.4% of the households of the urban area had a car or truck, a higher figure in 3.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (16.3%). At national level, population that had this means of transport increased in 1.9 percentage points, by going from 13.8% to 15.7%.
In addition, it outstood the growth of houses that have motorcycles both in the urban area by going from 11.2 to 12.4% (1.2 percentage points), and at national level from 13.1% to13.8% (0.7 percentage point).
