Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles at national level increased by 6.1% in September of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of September of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles reported in the tollbooth units increased by 6.1% compared to the same month of the last year.


In the Technical Report Vehicular Flow through Tollbooth Units, states that this monthly result, is based in the positive behavior of the key economic sectors such as Construction, due to the greater domestic cement consumption and to the physical progress of public works of the local and regional governments; and to the Agribusiness, due to higher levels of areas sown and good weather conditions.


In addition, the wholesale commerce also increased reflected in the sale of solid, liquid, gas fuels and lubricants for gas stations and the industrial sector, as well as the sale of heavy duty machinery, among others; the Mining activity also grew due to the increase of the volumes extracted of copper, gold, zinc, silver, lead and tin; Manufacturing activity increased, mainly due to the primary manufacturing subsector, in the preparation and conservation of fish, crustaceans and molluscs; and maritime fishing increased before the growing landing of species for consumption in fresh, frozen and canned state.


The tollbooths with high traffic flow were: to the north, Piura (Paita 25.3%, Loma Larga Baja 9.3%, Piura Sullana 8.5% and Chulucanas 6.8%), San Martín (Moyobamba 22.6%, Pongo 21.6% and Aguas Claras 5.0%), La Libertad (Virú 13.3%, Pacanguilla 12.5% and Chicama 11.6%), Ancash (Huarmey 12.8%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 10.9%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 9.7%).


In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 16.0%, Fortaleza 12.8%, El Paraíso 7.3%) and Junín (Quiulla 5.5%); and in the south, Moquegua (Ilo 59.9% and Pampa Cuellar 6.3%), Arequipa (Patahuasi 41.9%, Uchumayo-concession 30.0% and Matarani-concession 28.2%), Ica (Marcona 16.6% and Jahuay Chincha 12.1%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 13.7%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 12.3%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 1.8%).


Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 6.3%
In September of 2025, the traffic Flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle increased by 6.3% compared to the same month of 2024, influenced by the greater traffic flow of cargo vehicles, such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 axle (5.0%), 4 axle (3.7%), 5 axle (3.2%), 6 axle (8.2%) and 7 axle (3.0%).

Traffic flow of light duty vehicles grew by 3.2%
During the month under analysis, the traffic flow of light-duty vehicles through the tollbooths registered an increase of 3.2% compared to the month of September of 2024, driven by the greater movement of persons, to participate in cultural events and recreational activities performed, due to the beginning of the spring season.


In addition, it contributed the religious festivities and the performance of different gastronomic fairs in Lima and in San Martín region. In addition, there were performed international events, such as the 7th International Tourism Fair “Fiavit 2025” in Lima and “PERUMIN 2025” in Arequipa, that brought together national and foreign visitors, driven by the touristic, commercial, accommodation and restaurants activities.


The tollbooths with greater traffic Flow were: to the North, in Piura (Paita 24.6%, Chulucanas 9.6%, Piura Sullana 5.7% and Loma Larga Baja 2.2%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 18.0%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 14.1%), San Martín (Aguas Claras 13.4% and Pongo 4.7%), La Libertad (Chicama 9.6%, Virú 8.3% and Pacanguilla 6.0%) and Ancash (Huarmey 7.2%).


In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 81.3%, Fortaleza 4.8%, Corcona 0.5% and El Paraíso 0.2%) and Junín (Casaracra 4.0% and Quiulla 1.9%); and in the south, in Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 9.9%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 9.8%), Arequipa (Patahuasi 8.0%, Uchumayo-Concesión 7.4% and Matarani-Concession 0.8%), Ica (Marcona 4.1%) and Moquegua (Ilo 3.4%).


Traffic flow at national level increased by 4.4%
During the month of September of 2025, the National Traffic Flow of Vehicles Index the one that consolidates the traffic Flow of light-duty and heavy-duty units’ trough the tollbooth units of the country increased by 4.4%, compared to the same month of the last year, due to the greater movement of heavy-duty (6.1%) and light-duty (3.2%) units. During the last twelve months (October 2024 – September 2025), increased by 3.7%.
