Gross Domestic Product increased 3.4% in the third quarter of 2025

During the third quarter of 2025, the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the Peruvian economy grew 3.4% compared to the same period of the last year, informed that the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI).


According to the technical report Behavior of the Peruvian Economy, this result was explained by the dynamism of the domestic demand (6.6%), driven by the increase of the gross fixed investment (10.1%) and the total consumption (3.4%), in a context of greater employment and labour income registered by the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).


In seasonally adjusted terms, the GDP increased 1.2% compared to the immediate previous quarter.


Private final consumption expenditure grew 3.2%
During the period under analysis, the Private Final Consumption Expenditure increased 3.2% compared to the same quarter of the last year. In nominal terms, represented the 58.3% of the GDP and reached a value of 175 thousand 225 million of Soles.


According to the EPEN, the employed population grew 1.9%, driven by the increase of the urban (2.2%) and rural (0.4%) employment, as well as the increase of the incomes from employment (10.7%).


On the other hand, the National Household Survey (ENAHO) stated that the nominal expenditure destined to foods consumed within the housing increased 5.7%. The greater increases were registered in: fruits (9.0%); fishes (8.1%); legumes and vegetables (7.0%); coffee, tea and cacao (7.0%); prepared foods (6.6%); meats (6.3%); oil and fats (6,3%); leche, queso y huevos (4,7%); non-alcoholic beverages (4.5%); and bread and cereals (3.5%). On the other hand, the expense in other food products (-2.7%) and in sugar and sweets (-0.3%) decreased.


Government final consumption expenditure increased 4.7%
During the third quarter of 2025, the Government Final Consumption Expenditure grew 4.7% compared to the same period of the last year, due to the greater dynamism of the activities of Public and Defense Administration (6.6%), Public Education (2.9%) and Public Health (0.9%).

Investment grew 10.1%
The Gross Fixed Capital Formation increased 10.1% compared to the third quarter of 2024, compared to the third quarter of 2024, driven by the progress of the construction sector (6.4%) and the greater purchases of machinery and equipment (15.8%), both national as well as imported.


The public investment grew 3.5% due to the greater expense of the General Government in projects of road infrastructure, medical facilities and educational facilities, in spite of the lower investment of public companies.


The public investment increased 12.2%, associated to the execution of extension and remodeling works of multi-family housings and condos, as well as non-residential buildings (commercial centers, offices, warehouses) and civil engineering works. According to the Ministry of Energy and Mines, the mining investment at current prices grew 22.5%, outstanding the sectors of infrastructure (42.3%), development and preparation (30.2%), mining equipment (27.3%) and exploration (23.6%), dimed due to the drop in plant and benefit (-10.8%).


Exports and imports showed positive results
During the third quarter of the year, the export of goods and services at constant prices of 2007 increased 1.2% compared to the same period of 2024. The imports also grew, registering an increase of 11.6%.


Performance of the GDP by economic activity

Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Caza y Silviculture
During the third quarter of 2025, the gross value added of the activity Agriculture, Livestock, Hunting and Silviculture grew 10.9%, compared to the same period of the year 2024, driven by the agriculture (15.6%) and livestock (4.1%) subsectors.


Fishing and Aquaculture
The Fishing and Aquaculture activity increased 8.3%, compared to the same period of the last year, due to the greater maritime fishing (9.0%), although the continental fishing reduced (-1.1%).


Extraction of Oil, Gas and Minerals
The activity of Extraction of Oil, Gas, Minerals and Related Services increased 2.1%, due to the greater production of crude oil, natural gas and related services (3.7%), as well as minerals (1.9%).


Manufacturing
During the third quarter of 2025, the gross value added in the Manufacturing activity registered a growth of 0.1%, compared to the same period of the last year. It outstood the increases of the activities in metallic products (17.7%), paper manufacture and printing (7.9%) and food industries (6.1%). Other manufacturing industries (-13.2%) and basic metallic industries (-11,7%) decreased.


Electricity, Gas and Water
The Electricity, Gas and Water activity grew 1.9% compared to the same period of the last year, due to the progress in the production of the electricity and gas (1.9%) and water (1.8%) subsectors.

Construction
During the third quarter of the year 2025, the Construction activity grew 6.4%, compared to the same period of the last year, associated to the greater execution of works of the public and private sector.


Commerce
The commerce activity increased 3.5%, due to the positive result of the wholesale and retail commerce subsectors (3.3%) and maintenance and repair services of automotive vehicles (5.9%).


Transportation, Storage, Postal and Courier
In the third quarter of the year 2025, the Transportation, Storage, Postal and Courier activity grew 3.8%, explained by the positive performance of the Transportation (3.8%) and storage, postal and courier (4.3%) subsectors.


Accommodation and Restaurants
The gross value added of the Accommodation and Restaurants activity increased 0.8% compared to the same period of the last year, due to the growth of the accommodation (2.0%) and restaurants (0.6%) subsectors.


Financial, Insurance and Pension services
The activity of Financial, Insurance and Pension services increased 1.0% compared to the same period of the last year, due to the increase of the activities of financial services (1.0%), insurance services (0.1%) and pension funds administrators (4.4%).


Services Provided to Companies
During the third quarter of 2025, the activity Services Provided to Companies was higher by 3.5%, compared to the same period of the last year, due to the favorable behavior of the activities that are part of it.


Public Administration and Defense
The gross value added of the activity Public Administration and Defense grew 4.4%, compared to the same period of the last year.


Other Services
During the third quarter of 2025, the Other Services activity increased 4.0% compared to the same quarter of 2024, due to the good performance of all the activities that are part of it.


Other Taxes to Products and Import Duties
In Other Taxes of Products and Import Duties increased 5.2%, compared to the same period of the last year, explain ed by the increase of other taxes of products (3.8%) and import duties (19.0%).
