Commercial activity grew 3.95% in September of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that the Commerce sector registered an increase of 3.95% in September of 2025, compared to the same month of the last year, determined by the dynamism of the wholesale commerce, retail commerce and automotive commerce. Likewise, it informed that during the period January to September of the current year, this sector showed a growth of 3.30%.


The wholesale commerce grew by 3.55%
During September of 2025, the wholesale commerce grew 3.55%, compared to the same month of the last year, mainly due to the sale of solid, liquid and gas fuels and of allied products such as lubricants, due to the demand of gas stations and industrial sector, as well as marketing campaigns that facilitated the capture of new clients. At the same time, it grew the sale of heavy-duty machinery and industrial equipment in sectoral events such as the “Primer Roadshow de Maquinaria” and “PERUMIN 2025”.


The same trend was observed in the sale of computers, peripheral equipment and computer programs, based by the diversification of portfolio, capture of clients and tenders. Likewise, the greater sale of domestic households answered to the demand of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, Stationery and office supplies, personal care products, kitchen appliances and perfumery, before promotional strategies and new sale points in shopping centers.


The sale foods, fruits, dairy, confectionery, beverages and tobacco registered increase due to improves in the advertising management and the impact of the fair “Expoalimentaria Perú 2025”. At the same time, the sale of electronic telecommunication equipment due to greater purchase orders. On the other hand, it decreased the sale of construction materials, hardware covers and equipment, as well as the sale of agriculture raw materials and of live animals.


Retail commerce increased by 3.65%
During the nineth month of the current year, the retail commerce experienced an increase of 3.65%, compared to the same month of the year 2024, due to the positive performance of the sale of pharmaceutical and medicinal products, as well as the sale of cosmetics and personal care products, favoured by promotions in dermo-cosmetics and exclusive trademarks. The sale in supermarkets and minimarkets grew due to the expansion of stores and the application of commercial strategies and sales in goods and groceries.


At the same time, it was favoured the sale of computers, peripheral units, computer programs and telecommunication equipment, before the renovation of equipment of high performance, the expansion of the hybrid teleworking and promotions in the digital channel. Likewise, it increased the sale of frames and optical lenses, agrochemical, foods and veterinarian accessories and capture of new clients; as well as the sale of household appliances of white, gray and brown line, kitchen utensils, cutlery, furniture, illumination appliances and musical instruments, driven by marketing.


At the same time, the sale in department stores showed increase in transactions, driven by discounts, promotions and commercial campaign of the “Shopping Day”.


The greater sale by mail and by Internet increased due to the discounts, promotions and digital payment solutions. Likewise, it increased the sale of other products in market stalls such as plastic disposable containers and the sale of sport articles and bikes, as well as the sale of fuels for automotive vehicles in service stations and gas station, due to the growth of the total number of motor vehicles and opening of new stations. Nevertheless, the sale of hardware retailing, paints and glass products.


The automotive commerce increased by 8.52%
During September of 2025, the automotive commerce registered a variation of 8.52%, compared to the same month of the last year, in response to the demand of light-duty vehicles (sports, trucks, pick-up and vans), heavy-duty vehicles (tanker trucks, trucks, mini-bus and omnibus) and small vehicles (motorcycles and tri-motos), driven by events such as the “Peruvian Truck Driver Day”, better financing conditions, commercial campaigns, competitive exchange rate, lower maritime freights and dynamism of the tourism sector.


Likewise, it registered a positive result the sale of parts, pieces and automotive vehicle accessories, due to the demand of pneumatics and the opening of new establishments; also grew the maintenance and repair of automotive vehicles, before new contracts and commercial strategies; as well as the sale, maintenance and repair of motorcycles and their parts, pieces and accessories.
