Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area grew 3.9% between August and October of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the mobile quarter August-September-October of 2025, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 719 thousand 400 persons, which represented a growth of 3.9% (214 thousand 400 persons) compared to the same quarter of the last year.
According to the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey on National Employment (EPEN), the male employed population increased by 3.8% (114 thousand 400 persons) and the female one by 4.0% (100 thousand persons). From the total, 54.5% (3 million 119 thousand 800) are men and 45.5% (2 million 599 thousand 600) are women.
Employment in the population of 45 years old and older grew 8.9%
By age groups, during the quarter under analysis, the employed population increased between the persons of 45 years old and older by 8.9% (190 thousand 400) compared to the same quarter of 2024, followed by the group of 25 to 44 years old, with an increase of 2.6% (68 thousand 900). On the other hand, it reduced by 6.7% (-45 thousand) in the employed population under 25 years old.
Population with university superior education level increased 12.7%
According to education level, during the mobile quarter August-September-October of 2025 and compared to the same period of 2024, the employed population grew between those that have university superior education level by 12.7% (209 thousand), followed by those that reached the non-university superior education level with 5.6% (65 thousand 200). On the other hand, it reduced by 5.1% (-17 thousand) between the persons with primary or lower education level, and by 1.8% (-42 thousand 700) between those that have secondary education level.
Population that works in Manufacturing sector increased 6.8%
During the period under analysis and compared to the same quarter of the last year, the employed population increased in the following sectors: Manufacturing by 6,8% (53 thousand 900), Commerce by 4.0% (48 thousand 300), Services 2.8% (83 thousand 100) and in Construction by 0.7% (2 thousand 900).
Economic units of 11 to 50 employees grew 23.6%
During the quarter under analysis, the employed population increased in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees by 23.6% (143 thousand 900) and in the establishments of 51band more employees by 11.0% (167 thousand 200). On the other hand, it decreased in the companies of 1 to 10 employees by 2.9% (-96 thousand 700).
Unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.9%
During the quarter under analysis, the unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.9%, which is equivalent to 361 thousand personas that actively sought an employment. Compared to the same mobile quarter of the last year (5.7%), it is observed an increase of 0.2 percentage point.
Suitable employment grew 12.6%
The population with suitable employment reached 3 million 800 thousand 900 persons, representing the 62.5% of the Economically Active Population (PEA). Compared to the same quarter of 2024, this population increased by 12.6% (424 thousand 900 persons).
On the other hand, the underemployed population reduced by 9.9% (-210 thousand 500), due to the decrease of the time-related underemployed by 17.1% (-72 thousand 800) and that of the underemployed population by revenues by 8.1% (-137 thousand 700), compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Average monthly income increased 11.4%
The average monthly income coming from work from the main activity in Lima Metropolitan area was of 2,311.50 Soles, registering an increase of 11.4% (236.30 Soles) compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Average monthly income grew in most of education levels
The average monthly income increased between the employees with university superior education level (10.3%), secondary education level (8.4%) and non-university superior education level (6.8%). On the other hand, it registered a slight decrease of 0.3% (-3.0 Soles) between those that have primary or lower education level.
Commerce registered the greater growth of revenues
During the mobile quarter August-September-October of 2025, the average monthly income coming from work increased between those employees who work in the following sectors: Commerce by 20.0% (327.30 Soles), Construction by 14.2% (314.4 Soles), Services by 10.1% (224.3 Soles) and Manufacturing 8.5% (167.40 Soles). The greater average monthly income was registered in Construction with 2,521.6 Soles; meanwhile that the lower one was registered in Commerce (1,960.7 Soles).
