INEI: Consumer prices in Lima Metropolitan area decreased 0.10% in October of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of October of 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Lima Metropolitan area decreased 0.10% compared to the last month, with an accumulated variation to the tenth month of 1.15% and that of the last 12 months (November 2024 – October 2025) of 1.35%.


In the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy is shown that the monthly result was mainly influenced, by the lower prices registered in the following consumption divisions: Foods and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.42%) and Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.27%); in addition to, alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (-0.10%) and Communications (-1.06%).


On the other hand, it increases the prices of Furniture, household articles and routine household maintenance (0.13%), Transportation (0.21%), Restaurants and hotels (0.10%), Goods and different services (0.22%), Health (0.11%), Clothing items and footwear (0.08%), Education (0.05%) and Recreation and culture (0.02%).

The decrease of prices observed in Foods and non-alcoholic beverages answers to the lower prices of fishes and seafood (-5.2%) such as Bonito fish (-20.2%), mussels (-13.1%), hake (-6.0%) and trout (-4.1%). Meanwhile that it increased the prices of horse mackerel (12.7%) parakeet fish (8.9%). In addition, it reduced the prices of milk, cheese and eggs (-2.2%) outstanding the chicken eggs (-8.7%); other food products (-1.4%) such as albahaca (-15.1%), coriander (-10.2%) and grounded Rocoto chili (-9.3%).


In addition, it decreased the prices of vegetables, fresh legumes including potato and other tubers (-1.0%) such as, lettuce (-14.9%), green beans (-13.5%), pickle (-10.5%), green peas (-8.4%), carrot (-7.6%), onion head (-5.9%), whole garlic (-4.5%) and white potato (-1.7%); likewise, sugar, marmalade, honey, chocolate and sweets of sugar (-0.7%) such as brown sugar (-2.0%).


Meanwhile, increase of prices were observed in fruits (1.1%) such as passion fruit (57.6%), strong avocado (16.0%), mandarin (10.1%), papaya (3.6%), black grape (2.5%) and white (2.1%); nevertheless, it decreased the prices of mango (-24.5%), blueberries (-7.2%), Regular apple (-5.5%) and Israel apple (-4.5%); lemon (-2.5%) and strawberry (-1.9%). Likewise, it increased the prices of meat (0.6%) such as eviscerated chicken (1.7%), chicken giblets (1.6%) and meat for beef stew (0.4%); bread and cereals (0.2%) such as Moron wheat (2.4%), whole quinoa (1.0%), French bread (0.6%) and salty crackers (0.4%); and mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and legumes juices (0.2%) as well as carbonated beverages (0.4%).


The reduction of prices observed in Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was based in the lower price observed in the residential electricity consumption tariff (-0.9%) since October 4th of 2025 and due to the decrease in the price of domestic propane gas (-0.6%).


The increase of prices that was registered in the division Restaurants and hotels is based in the increase observed in the service of beverages in restaurants and similar facilities (0.2%) specially in the natural refreshments (0.9%), carbonated beverages (0.3%), served beer (0.2%) and blended fruit juice (0.2%); and due to the increase in the service of food in restaurants and similar facilities (0.1%) due to the increase in the price of the ceviche (0.2%), Chaufa fried rice (0.2%), menu in restaurants (0.1%) and grilled chicken (0.1%).


In the division of Transportation increased the prices of transportation of passengers by air (1.0%), such as the national air ticket (5.9%) and the transportation of passengers by road (0.5%) such as the fare in combi (1.5%), omnibus and microbus (0.8%) and interprovincial omnibus (0.5%).


On the other hand, it decreased the prices of fuels for vehicles (-1.3%) such as the liquefied petroleum gas (-2.2%), gasohol (-1.4%), Diesel oil (-0.8%); and the acquisition of vehicles (-1.0%) such as new automobiles (-1.0%).


Products with greater influence in the monthly variation
The behavior of the prices during the month of October was mainly influenced, by the decrease registered in foods such as Bonito fish, chicken eggs and mango, as well as the electric fare and the mobile phone fare, that together contributed with -0.250 percentage points to the result of the month. Nevertheless, it outstood the increase in the price of tomato; fruits such as passion fruit and strong avocado; eviscerated chicken and horse mackerel.


Products that decreased the price in greater proportion
During October of 2025, from the 586 products of the family basket, 276 increased their prices, 121 decreased their prices and 189 did not showed variation. The products that registered decrease of Price in greater proportion were the following products: mango (-24.52%), Bonito fish (-20.23%), basil (-15.09%), lettuce (-14.91%), green beans (-13.49%), mussels (-13.12%), leek (-10.47%) and pickle (-10.45%).


On the other hand, the products that registered increase in their prices in greater proportion were the following products: passion fruit (57.58%), tomato (25.60%), strong avocado (15.98%), Escabeche fresh yellow chili (13,78%), horse mackerel (12.66%), mandarin (10.10%), parakeet fish (8.93%) and corn (6.63%).


Consumer prices without food and energy registered a slightly increased by 0.04%
During October of 2025, the variation of the variation of Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area without considering foods and energy slightly increase by 0.04%, compared to the last month.


Prices at national level reduced by 0.07%
During the tenth month of the year, the consumer prices at national level decreased 0.07% compared to the last month, with an accumulate variation of 1.08% and that of the last 12 months (November 2024 – October 2025) of 1.29%.


This result mainly answers, to the behavior observed in the consumption divisions of: Communications (-1.08%), Foods and non-alcoholic beverages (-0.32%) and Housing, water, electricity, gas (-0.22%). Meanwhile that it increased the prices of Education (0.03%), Clothing items and footwear (0.05%), Recreation and culture (0.08%), Health (0.09%), Restaurants and hotels (0.13%), Furniture, articles for the households (0.13%), Transportation (0.16%) and Goods and different services (0.20%). Meanwhile, Alcoholic beverages and tobacco maintained their prices.


Variation of prices by cities
During October of 2025, from the 26 cities where it is calculated the Consumer Price Index, 18 registered decreases of prices, from which it outstood the following cities: Tumbes (-0.48%), Huancavelica (-0.47%), Chachapoyas (-0.44%), Huánuco (-0.40) and Cerro de Pasco (-0.38%). On the other hand, eight cities registered positive result, between them, Iquitos (0.43%), Puerto Maldonado (0.27%), Tarapoto (0.21%) and Piura (0.15%).


Wholesale prices at national level decreased 0.63%
The Wholesale Price Index decreased by 0.63% compared to the month of September, mainly due to the lower prices of national products, outstanding the manufacturing products (gasohol, liquid petroleum gas, Diesel oil, Steel profiles, fibers of cotton yarn, construction rods, brown sugar, industrial wheat flour and refined soy oil) and fishing products (Bonito fish, hake, parakeet fish, Tollo fish and trout); meanwhile, it increased the prices of agriculture goods (tomato, chili, avocado, lemon, corn, yuca and banana) and livestock products (live chicken, cattle pig and sheep).


In the case of imported products, it decreased the prices of industrial goods (forklift, carbon black, bulldozers, polypropylene resins, mobile phone, construction rods, cyanide, Steel sheets and diesel oil); and agribusiness goods (cotton not carded, wheat and hard yellow corn).


Prices of machinery and equipment decreased 2.17%
During the month under analysis, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment decreased by 2.17% compared to the month of September, continuing this way with the downward trend that maintain by sixth consecutive month. This result is based, among other factors, by the increase of the Sol against the Dollar, that influenced in the prices of machinery and equipment for transportation (vehicles for transportation of goods, road tractors for semi-trailers and pick-up trucks); industries (forklift, wheel loaders and dumper trucks); other machinery (electromedical equipment); and agriculture (tractors).


The same behavior was observed in the goods of national origin that registered downwards prices in machinery and equipment for agriculture (troughs and nests for birds); industry (propane tanks, cylinders and transformers); transportation (car bodies, springs for automotive vehicle and moto-taxi); and other machinery (nets for a catch and clinical beds).


Prices of construction materials reduced by 0.38%
During October of 2025, the prices of construction materials decreased 0.38% compared to the last month, influenced by the reduction of prices in most groups that are part of this indicator; such as glasses (templated glasses); metallic ( tubes, hot-rolled carbon steel flat products, zinc corrugated sheets, construction rods and nails); electrical supplies (cables for energy and cables for general use); tiles and mosaics (floor coverings); binders (type I Portland cement); concrete structures and frameworks (corrugated fiberglass sheets); and aggregates (concrete).


On the other hand, it increased the prices of bricks (Pandereta brick, for ceiling and King kong brick); woods (oak, Cachimbo wood, Tornillo wood and plywood); and tubes and plastic accessories (tubes for water and sewer pipes).
