Traffic flow of vehicles at national level through the tollbooth units increased by 4.6% during August of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of August of 2025, the National Traffic Flow of Vehicles Index the one that consolidates the traffic Flow of light-duty and heavy-duty units’ trough the tollbooth units of the country grew by 4.6% compared to the same month of the last year; and during the last twelve months (September 2024 – August 2025) was higher by 3.6%.
The technical report Vehicular Flow through Tollbooth Units, states that the favorable result, was based in the greater movement of light-duty (5,1%) and heavy-duty (3.8%) vehicles. It is worth to mention that, the National Seasonally adjusted Index of the Traffic Flow through the tollbooth’s units registered a positive variation of 0.3% compared to the last month.
Traffic flow of light-duty vehicles increased by 5.1%
During the month under study, the traffic flow of light-duty units through the tollbooths increased by 5.1% compared to August of 2024, driven by the great movement of people, motivated by the visits to the sanctuary of Santa Rosa de Lima and the participation in different religious celebrations in different regions of the country, linked to the holiday due to the commemoration of the Battle of Junin, that included official ceremonies, besides to school and military parades. These events dynamized the activities linked to the retail trade and restaurants, as well as it promotes the domestic tourism.
The tollbooths that registered a greater traffic Flow were: to the north, San Martin (Aguas Claras 18.4% and Pongo 3.9%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 16.7%), Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 14.0%), Piura (Paita 12.2%, Chulucanas 9.4%, Loma Larga Baja 6.8% and Piura Sullana 5.0%), Ancash (Huarmey 10.5%) and La Libertad (Pacanguilla 10.2%, Chicama 10.2% and Viru 3.7%).
In the center, Lima (Serpentine of Pasamayo 25.4%, Fortaleza 9.3%, El Paraíso 4.9%, Corcona 3.3% and Variant of Pasamayo 3.3%) and Junín (Casaracra 7.9% and Quiulla 5.1%); and in the south, Arequipa (Uchumayo-Concession 20.4%, Patahuasi 5.1% and Matarani-Concession 1.3%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 11.2%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 9.4%), Ica (Marcona 3.2% and Jahuay Chincha 1.2%) and Moquegua (Ilo 1.3%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles increased 3.8%
During August of 2025, traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles through the tollbooths of the country, grew 3.8% compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior was determined by the high demand of the transportation service of heavy load, associated to the development of the agribusiness sector favoured by the greater areas sown and suitable climatic conditions.
In addition, due to the Good performance of the mining activity, before the increase of the volumes extracted of gold, zinc, silver, lead, iron and tin; manufacturing, reflected in the positive behavior of the non-primary manufacturing subsector (capital goods and intermediate goods); construction, due to the increased domestic cement consumption in the private sector; and the wholesale commerce, mainly based in the sale of liquid and gas and lubricants for the supply to retail centers.
The tollbooths that registered a greater traffic of heavy-duty vehicles, were: to the north, Piura (Paita 21.3%, Loma Larga Baja 11.2%, Piura Sullana 7.6% and Chulucanas 5.5%), San Martín (Pongo 16.3%, Moyobamba 12.4% and Aguas Claras 1.0%), La Libertad (Pacanguilla 13.8%, Virú 12.4% and Chicama 11.3%), Áncash (Huarmey 11.8%), Lambayeque (Diversion Olmos 7.8%) and Cajamarca (Pomahuaca - Pucará 6.1%).
In the center, Lima (Fortaleza 12.1%, Serpentine of Pasamayo 9.1%, El Paraíso 8.9%, Variant of Pasamayo 1.3%) and Junín (Quiulla 4.2%); and in the south, Arequipa (Patahuasi 38.6%, Uchumayo-Concession 27.7% y Matarani-Concession 20.0%), Moquegua (Ilo 28.1% and Pampa Cuellar 0.9%), Apurímac (Pichirhua 19.9%), Ayacucho (Pampa Galera 16.1%), Ica (Marcona 9.5% and Jahuay Chincha 8.5%) and Puno (Santa Lucía 0.8%).
Traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle grew by 3.9%
In August of 2025, the traffic flow of heavy-duty vehicles for loading of 3 to 7 axle showed an increase of 3.9% compared to the same month of 2024, influenced by the increase of the traffic flow of loading vehicles such as trailers, semi-trailers and heavy-duty trucks for loading of 3 axle (4.2%), 4 axle (2.1%), 5 axle (0.01%) and 6 axle (5.1%); nevertheless, the service of transportation of 7 axle vehicles decreased (-10.8%).
