Employed population of Lima Metropolitan area grew 3.9% in the third quarter of 2025

During the third quarter July-August-September of 2025, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 674 thousand persons, which represents an increase of 3.9% (212 thousand 300 persons) compared with the same quarter of the last year.


This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in its technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey on National Employment (EPEN).


Likewise, then male employed population increased by 3.9% (115 thousand 700 persons) and the female employed population with the same variation 3.9% (96 thousand 400 persons) compared to the third quarter of 2024. From the total of employed population in Lima Metropolitan area, 54.6% (3 million 100 thousand 700) are men and 45.4% (2 million 573 thousand 200) are women.


Employed population grew 8.2% among the people aged 45 years old and older
According to age group, the employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 8.2% (172 thousand 500 persons), meanwhile that the employed population of 25 to 44 years old increased by 2.4% (64 thousand 500 persons). On the other hand, the employed population of 14 to 24 years old decreased by 3.7% (-24 thousand 800 persons) compared to the same quarter of 2024.


Employment increased 9.7% among the persons with university education level
By compared to the same period of the last year, the employed population with university superior education level grew by 9.7% (161 thousand persons); followed by those that have non-university superior education level, that increased by 5.0% (58 thousand 700 persons), and those that have secondary education level, that grew by 0.2% (4 thousand 900 persons).


On the other hand, the population with primary or lower education level decreased by 3.4% (-12 thousand 200 persons).


Manufacturing led the job creation
According to the results of the EPEN, during the third quarter of the current year, the employed population increased in the Manufacturing (8.5%; 65 thousand 200 persons), Services (3.7%; 108 thousand 400 persons) and Construction (3.0%; 12 thousand persons) sectors. In the Commerce sector, were not registered significative variations.


The greater employment growth in medium companies
The employed population increased in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees by 25.1% (152 thousand 400 persons) and in companies of 51 and more employees by 7.8% (117
thousand 600 persons). On the other hand, decreased in the micro-enterprises (1 to 10 employees) in 1.7% (- 57 thousand 800 persons).


Unemployment rate reduced by 5.7% in Lima Metropolitan area
During the quarter July-August-September of 2025, the unemployed rate in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 5.7%, equivalent to 346 thousand 100 persons that actively sought employment. Compared to the same quarter of the last year (5.9%), the unemployment rate decreased in 0.2 percentage point.


Population with suitable employment increased by 12.8%
During the quarter under analysis, the population with suitable employment reached 3 million 736 thousand 400 persons, registering an increase of 12.8% (424 thousand 100 persons) compared to the third quarter of 2024.


On the other hand, the underemployed population reduced by 9.9% (-211 thousand 900 persons). In particular, the underemployed by time-related underemployment (visible underemployment) decreased by 14.3% (-63 thousand 100 persons) and the underemployed by incomes (invisible underemployment) by 8.7% (-148 thousand 800 persons).


Average monthly income increased 11.6%
Ther average monthly income coming from work of the main activity in Lima Metropolitan area placed in 2,293.90 Soles, which represents an increase of 11.6% (239.00 Soles) compared to the same quarter of the last year.


By sex, the average monthly income of men was of 2,581.50 Soles, with an increase of 13.0% (297.20 Soles); meanwhile that the average monthly income of women was of 1,940.10 Soles, with a growth of 9.4% (166.80 Soles) compared to the third quarter of 2024.


Average income increased in all the activity branches
The average monthly income coming from work increased in the branches that perform activities in the Construction: 20.0% (428.50 Soles), Commerce: 19.5% (316.40
Soles), Services: 10.0% (220.40 Soles) and Manufacturing: 7.6% (150.30 Soles) sectors.
The greater average income registered in the Construction sector (2,571.50 Soles) and the lower was registered in the Commerce sector (1,941.30 Soles) sectors.
