INEI starts 2025 National Censuses in the floating islands of Uros, in Puno

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) started in the emblematic floating islands of Uros, in the Lake Titicaca (Puno), the 2025 National Censuses of Population, Housing and Indigenous Communities, that will develop until October 31st.
During this period, the census officers of the INEI will travel in ships over 90 floating islands constructed with “totora”, in order to census register all the families and characteristics of their households.
The chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán Flores, highlighted the census personnel commitment that reaches the most remote areas of the country.
“There will be no place that the census personnel not perform the census registration. I express my acknowledgment and gratitude to each census officer to fulfil with commitment and vocation to this labor”, expressed.
According to the last census, in the Uros Islands lives more than 2 thousand persons, which predominant language is the Aimara, and which main economic activities are the tourism, the fishing and recollection.
Morán Flores also condemned any act of aggression or lack of respect against the field personnel and called upon the citizens to provide all the facilities and support during the development of the 2025 National Censuses.
“Each census officer fulfils an essential function for the country. Their work allows to have key information to guide public policies and the national development”, concluded.
