Mining and Hydrocarbons sector grew 1.78% during August of 2025

During August of 2025, the Mining and Hydrocarbons sector registered an increase of 1.78%, compared to the same month of the last year; this was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) based in the technical report Conjuncture Progress of Economic Activity.


This behavior was explained by the positive contribution of the metal mining subsector by 0.87% due to the greater production of zinc (29.2%), gold (8.1%), iron (7.6%), tin (3.6%), silver (2.1%) and lead (1.5%); meanwhile, it decreased the copper (-2.0%) and molybdenum (-20.7%) production.


The hydrocarbons subsector increased by 8.31% compared to August of 2024, due to the greater volume of crude oil production (13.4%), natural gas (8.5%) and liquids of natural gas (5.1%).


After two months of positive behavior of the Fishing sector decreased 11.47%
During the month under study, the Fishing sector contracted by 11.47% compared to August of the year 2024, due to the lower capture of species of maritime origin (-17.40%), mainly of resources intended to direct human consumption -19.04%, registered in its four destinations: preparation of curing (-37.0%), frozen (-28.0%), preparation of canning (-12.9%) and for consumption in fresh state (-10.3%).


In the group of fishing for indirect human consumption (fishmeal and fish oil), continued the ban in the North-Center area of the Peruvian coastline, area of greater availability, for this reason the extraction registered was of 6,208 tons, compared to the figure registered in August 2024 (297 tons), which translated in an increase of 5,911 tons. This capture came from the ports of Mollendo and Matarani.


On the other hand, the fishing of continental origin increased 37.79% as a result of the greater extraction of species for consumption in fresh state (64.98%) and preparation of curing (13.43%); nevertheless, it decreased for frozen (-26.19%).


Production of electricity subsector grew by 0.30%
During August of 2025, the production of the electricity subsector registered a positive variation of 0.30%, compared to the same month of the last year, as a result of the greater generation of hydroelectric origin energy (8.07%) and of wind-solar renewable origin energy (2.65%); nevertheless, it partially counterbalanced this result the lower generation of Thermoelectric origin energy (-6.04%).


The main companies that outstood by its production were: Chinango, Empresa de Generación Huallaga, Empresa de Generación Eléctrica San Gabán, Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Machupicchu, Inland Energy, Empresa de Generación Huanza, Compañía Eléctrica El Platanal (Celepsa), Energía Eólica, Orygen Perú and Statkraft Perú.

Domestic Cement consumption increased by 6.36%
During August of 2025, the domestic cement consumption increased by 6.36%, compared to the same month of the last year, this result was due to the execution of works of the private sector. In addition, during the period of January-August of 2025, grew by 4.93% compared to the same period of the year 2024.


Consumption credits expanded in August by 10.10%, its highest rate so far this year
During the month under analysis, consumption credits placed in S/ 77,249 million, growing in 10.10%, compared to the same month of the last year.


At the same time, the mortgage loans totalized S/ 69,578 million, increasing by 6.38% compared to August of 2024. Followed by the credits granted to big, medium, small and micro-enterprises that totalized S/ 220,339 million, growing by 2.83%, compared to August of 2024.


On the other hand, the placement of credit cards of the multiple banking placed in 6,672 thousand units, growing by 7.18%, compared to the same month of the last year.


Total imported amount increased by 3.62%
Based on the available information as of September 28th of the current year, during August 2025, the total imported amount was of US$ 5,275 million, growing by 3.62% compared to the value obtained during August of the last year.


Therefore, the imported amount of consumption goods totalized US$ 1,162 million, with an increase of 10.73%, compared to the value registered during the same month of 2024. Followed by the import of capital goods and construction materials that totalized US$ 1,738 million, increasing in 22.17%, compared to the same month of 2024.


On the other hand, the import of raw materials and intermediate products placed in US$ 2,374 million, a lower figure in 9.27%, compared to the value registered in August of the last year.
