INEI: Consumer prices in Lima Metropolitan area registered a slight increase of 0.01% in September of 2025

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the month of September of 2025, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) of Lima Metropolitan area increased by 0.01% compared to the previous month, with an accumulated variation of 1.25% and that of the last 12 months (October 2024 – September 2025) of 1.36%.


In the technical report Variation of the Price Indicators of the Economy is explained this result was mainly influenced, by the increase of prices in Recreation and culture (0.15%), Goods and different services (0.13%), Restaurants and hotels (0.11%), Health (0.10%), Clothing items and footwear (0.06%), Furniture, household articles and routine household maintenance (0.05%), Communications (0.02%) and Education (0.01%).


On the other hand, the prices in the divisions of Alimentos and Non-Alcoholic Beverages (-0.07%), Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.13%), Alcoholic Beverages, Tobacco and Narcotics(-0.09%) and Transportation (-0.01%) reduced.


The decrease observed in Foods and Non-Alcoholic Beverages was due to the lower prices registered in other food products (-1.4%) such as Peruvian yellow pepper (-15.7%), coriander (-10.0%), ginger (-8.0%) and grounded garlic (-2.9%); milk, cheese and eggs (-1.3%) due to the lower prices of chicken eggs (-5.4%); meat (-0.6%) such as eviscerated chicken (-1.6%), chicken cuts: wings (-0.8%), leg (-0.8%) and breast (-0.7%); in addition, sugar, marmalade, honey and chocolate (-0.6%) such as brown (-2.0%) and white (-1.2%) sugar.


Meanwhile, it increased the prices of fishes and seafood (3.2%) such as mackerel (25.8%), horse mackerel (13.7%), hake (11.5%), parrot (10.2%), mullet (3.5%) and Bonito fish (1.4%); fruits (0.6%) such as, lemon (18.2%), passion fruit (16.2%), strong avocado (9.2%), white grape (7.0%), black grape (3.6%), Israel (3.0%) and regular (2.1%) apple; vegetables and legumes includes potatoes and other tubers (0.5%) such as tomatoes (21.7%), onion (19.9%), bell pepper (14.4%) and white pepper (1.3%); meanwhile, reduced the prices of green onion (-29.8%), cauliflower (-18.7%), lettuce (-13.4%), beet (-13.4%) and green peas (-11.8%). In addition, it increases the prices of coffee, tea and cacao (0.5%) such as grounder toasted coffee (1.3%) and instant coffee (1.0%).


The negative result in the division of Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels was based in the reduction of prices of domestic propane gas (-1.0%), consumption of residential natural gas (-0.8%) due to the tariff sheet in force since September 1° of 2025; and the consumption of residential electricity (-0.3%) due to the new tariff sheet applied since September 4th of the current year and balance of the decrease during the previous month.


In Restaurants and hotels increased the prices of the food services in restaurants and similar facilities (0.1%) such as ceviche (0.7%), Broaster chicken (0.3%), grilled meat (0.3%), sandwiches (0.3%), marine plates (0.3%), grilled chicken (0.1%) and menu in restaurants (0.1%); and the beverage service in restaurants and similar facilities (0.1%) such as soda beverages (0.4%) and blended fruit juice (0.3%).


In the Goods and different services division increased the prices of beauty parlors and establishments of personal care (0.2%) such as haircuts for women (0.6%), aesthetic care of hand and feet (0.5%) and hair dyes (0.5%); and other devices, articles and products for personal care products (0.1%) such as toothpastes (0.3%), women cologne (0.3%) and sanitary pads (0.3%).


Products with greater incidence in the monthly variation
The variation of prices of the nineth month of the year was mainly influenced, by the increase of prices in Restaurants and hotels due to the increase in the service of foods and beverages in restaurants, Goods and different services due to the increase in articles and services of personal care and Recreation and culture due to the increase in the cultural and entertainment services. Dimmed by the reduction of prices of Foods and non-alcoholic beverages such as poultry meat, eggs, some vegetables, fresh and dried legumes and sugar and; Accommodation, water, electricity and gas (gas and tariff sheet of electricity).


Products that decreased the price in greater proportion
During September of 2025, from the 586 products of the family basket, 249 increased their prices, 152 decreased and 185 did not showed variation. The products that registered increase of prices were: mackerel (25.81%), tomato (21.65%), onion (19.94%), lemon (18.15%), passion fruit (16.19%), bell pepper (14.42%), horse mackerel (13.73%) and hake (11.50%).


Meanwhile, it decreased the prices of onion (-29.79%), cauliflower (-18.73%), grounded rocoto pepper (-15.67%), mango (-15.55%), beet (-13.37%), lettuce (-13.36%), green peas (-11.76%) and leek (-11.34%).


Consumer prices without food and energy registered a slightly increased by 0.06%
During September of 2025, the variation of Consumer Price Index of Lima Metropolitan area without considering foods and energy grew 0.06%.


Prices at national level increased 0.04%
At national level, the consumer prices increased by 0.04% compared to the month of August, with a variation accumulated of 1.15% and of 1.33% in the last 12 months (October 2024 – September 2025).


The divisions that increased their price were Recreation and culture (0.17%), Restaurants and hotels (0.15%), Health (0.15%), Goods and different services (0.13%), Furniture, household articles and routine household maintenance (0.05%), clothing items and footwear (0.03%), Foods and non-alcoholic beverages (0.02%) and Education (0.01%). On the other hand, it decreased the prices of Accommodation, water, electricity, gas and other fuels (-0.11%), Transportation (-0.05%), Alcoholic beverages, tobacco and narcotics (-0.04%) and Communications (-0,01%).


Variation of prices by cities
During September of 2025, from the 26 cities where it is calculated the Consumer Price Index, 15 registered increases of prices. The highest variations were observed in the cities of Puerto Maldonado (0.38%), Puno (0.31%), Arequipa (0.29%) and Piura (0.26%). Meanwhile that eleven cities registered negative results, among them: Huancavelica (-0.38%), Moyobamba (-0.34%), Moquegua (-0.28%) and Chachapoyas (-0.20%).


Wholesale prices at national level decreased 0.35%
The Wholesale Price Index reduced by 0.35% during September of 2025 compared to the month of August, explained by the lower prices in the national products, such as manufactured (plastic bags, construction rods, liquefied petroleum gas, fibers of cotton, diesel oil, poultry meat, brown sugar, paddy rice and industrial wheat flour) and livestock (live chicken, eggs, live hen and swine cattle); nevertheless, it increased the prices in agriculture products (lemon, tomato, onion, avocado, coffee in grain, banana and hard yellow corn) and fishing (mackerel, Bonito fish, hake and horse mackerel).


Likewise, it reduced the prices of imported goods of manufacturing (PVC resins, polypropylene and polyethylene, construction rods, lubricant oils, steel plates, soy cakes, front-end loaders, vehicles for transportation, cyanide and black smoke) and agribusiness (non-carded cotton, hard yellow corn and wheat).


Machinery and equipment prices reduced 0.64%
During September of 2025, the Price Index of Machinery and Equipment decreased by 0.64% compared to the month of August. The variation of the Exchange rate that influenced in the imported capital goods such as machinery and equipment (electromedical devices and different electricity meters), machinery for the industry (forklift trucks, dumper trucks, laptop computers and bulldozers) and machinery for the transportation (motors for vessels, pick-up trucks and road tractor for semi-trailer); nevertheless, the prices of the machinery and equipment for agriculture increased (tractors and pickaxes).


In addition, the prices of the goods of national origin, decreased outstanding the agricultural machinery (birds’ nests), machinery for transportation (moto-taxi and car bodies) and industrial machinery (cylinders, welding machine and electrical transformers); counterbalanced the result, the increase of prices of other machinery and equipment (clinic beds).


Prices of construction materials decreased 0.35%
During September of 2025, the prices of construction materials decreased by 0.35% compared to the last month, due, mainly, to the drop of prices in the group metallics (steel sheets, galvanized plates, steel tubes, rods and nails), that impacted with greater strength in the result of the indicator. In addition, it decreased the prices of electric supplies (power cable solutions and of general use), glasses (templates), bricks (for roof and Pandereta brick), tubes and plastic accessories (glues, PVC accessories both for electricity for water and sewerage, tanks and water pipes) and, in lower measurement the binder (cement Portland type I).


On the other hand, it increased the prices of tiles and Mosaics (floor and wall coverings), woods (Oak tree, Tornillo wood and Cachimbo wood) and concrete structures and metal frames (surfaces of gypsum wallboard), meanwhile that the aggregates did not showed variation.
