60.1% of the households have connection to the Internet

During the second quarter of 2025, 60.1% of the households of the country have the Internet service and registered a growth of 2.2 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (57.9%). This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and informatics (INEI), in the technical report Statistics of the Information and Communication Technologies in the Households, with the results of the National Household Survey.


By residence area, in Lima Metropolitan area, 80.5% of the households have this service a higher figure in 1.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (79.2%). In the res turban area, the coverage reached 61.6% and in the rural area the 23.6%, with increases of 1.8 and 3.1 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same quarter of 2024.


80.2% of the population of 6 years old and older used the Internet
From April to June of 2025, 80.2% of the population of 6 years old and older in the country used the Internet. The greater level of use of the Internet was registered in Lima Metropolitan area, with a 87.1% of the population, 3.1 percentage points less than I the same quarter of the last year (90.2%). In the rest urban area reached a coverage of 83.5% and in the rural area 59.2%, increasing in 1.2 and 2.9 percentage points, respectively.


More men than women use the Internet
During the second quarter of 2025, 82.4% of men and 78.1% of women of 6 years old and older used the Internet, registered a gap of 4.3 percentage points in favor of men.


95.9% of the population of 19 to 24 years old used the Internet in greater proportion
During the second quarter of 2025, 95.9% of the population of 19 to 24 years old used the Internet service, followed by the group of 25 to 40 years old with a 93.3% and the group of 12 to 18 years old with a 90.3%. In lower proportion accessed to Internet the population of 6 to 11 years old (61.9%) and of 60 years old and older (48.3%).


By comparing the quarter under analysis with the same quarter of 2024, were observed increases in the use of the Internet between the population of 41 to 59 years old in 1.2 percentage points; in the older adults of 60 years old and older in 1.0 percentage point and in the young people of 25 to 40 years old in 0.6 percentage point.


89.0% of the population who are Internet users used this service through a cellphone
During the second quarter of 2025, 89.0% of the user population of Internet of 6 years old and older used the Internet service through a cellphone, whether with or without data plan. Other devices used to contact the Internet service were the laptop (17.9%), the computer (14.3%), the tablet (2.0%) and other devices, such as intelligent televisions (Smart TV), reaching a participation of 15.5%.


By comparing these data with the second quarter of 2024, it was observed a decrease of 1.7 percentage points in the use of computer to contact the Internet service. On the other hand, the use of other devices such as Smart TV increased in 3.2 percentage points.


98.2% of the users of 15 years old and older with non-university superior education level used the Internet through a cellphone
During the quarter under analysis, 98.2% of the users of 15 years old and older with non-university superior education level used the Internet service through a cellphone. In addition, it registered high percentages the users that have primary or lower education level (97.2%), university superior education level (97.1%) and secondary education level (95.0%).


Use of mobile phone reached the 95.4% of the households
From April to June of 2025, the coverage of mobile phone reached the 95.4% of the households of the country. According to residence area, in Lima Metropolitan area, 98.0% has this service, followed by the rest urban area with 96.6% and in the rest rural area with 88.3%.


On the other hand, the education level of the chief of the household also influenced in the possession of a mobile phone. In the households which the chief of household has non-university superior education level, the coverage was of 99.5% and the households where the chief has university superior education level was of 98.9%. Followed by the households with chief of households with secondary education level (98.0%) and with primary or lower education level (88.3%).
