Potato production grew 45.8% in July of 2025 and four departments contributed with the 61.3% of the total production

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the Technical Report Peru: Economic Outlook by Department informed that during July of 2025, the potato production outstood in agriculture areas located in the four following departments: Arequipa (391.0%), La Libertad (57.2%), Ica (46.7%) and Junín (6.4%), which contributed together with the 61.3% of the national total. On the other hand, it decreased in Piura (-72.7%), Apurímac (-34.3%), Ancash (-31.3%) and Tacna (-25.0%).


At national level, during July of 2025, the potato production reached 397 thousand tons and increased by 45.8%, compared to the same month of the last year. This behavior, was based in the favorable water conditions that benefited the growth of the tuber, obtaining higher harvests of this crop with high demand on the part of families and of the gastronomy sector.

Six departments concentrated the 64.6% of the national production of the starchy maize
During the seventh month of 2025, the production of the starchy maize outstood in six departments, among them are: Cusco (407.9%), Piura (135.0%), Apurímac (59.4%), Ancash (55.2%), Cajamarca (49.0%) and Huancavelica (19.9%), representing together the 64.6% of the national total. Meanwhile, it decreased in Arequipa (-92.8%), Moquegua (-77.1%), La Libertad (-16.7%) and Lambayeque (-1.7%).


Across the country, the production of starchy maize, totalized 84 thousand 455 tons and registered a growth of 48.0% compared to July of the last year, explained by the greater harvested areas and better yields obtained, due to suitable thermal conditions that allowed the maturation process of this grain that registered a great local demand, especially in Andean zones.


Three departments participated with the 82.8% of the total poultry production
By comparing July of 2025 with the same month of the last year, it was observed that the poultry production, mainly increased in the departments of Lima (3.7%), La Libertad (3.6%) and Arequipa (3.1%), that together contributed with the 82.8% of the national total.


In addition, it increased in Ucayali (8.5%), Tumbes (6.2%), Loreto (4.2%), Piura (3.6%), San Martín (3.6%),
Áncash (3.0%), Lambayeque (1.9%), Ica (1.8%), Amazonas (1.8%), Tacna (1.4%) and Madre de Dios (0.5%). Nevertheless, it contracted in Pasco (-4.8%), Moquegua (-4.5%), Junín (-3.5%), Ayacucho (-2.9%), Huancavelica (-2.6%), Apurímac (-2.4%), Huánuco (-2.0%), Cusco (-1.8%), Cajamarca (-1.4%)
and Puno (-0.7%).


At national level, the poultry production increased by 3.4% compared to the same month of 2024, determined by the greater placement of BB chicken of the meat line.


Five departments contributed with the 60.1% of the copper production
During July of the current year, the cooper production outstood in the departments of Apurímac (49.7%), Ica (21.2%), Junín (17.4%), Moquegua (14.5%) and Cusco (8.3%), which contributed together with the 60.1% of the national total. On the other hand, it decreased in Pasco (-28.8%), Ancash (-24.2%), Arequipa (-20.6%), Huánuco (-20.4%), Lima (-14.9%) and Tacna (-9.8%).


During the seventh month of 2025, the copper production increased by 2.0% compared to July of the last year, influenced by the high volumes obtained in the following companies; Mine Las Bambas, Anglo American Quellaveco and Minera Chinalco Perú, linked to the higher levels of production reported in Marcobre, Minera Antapaccay, Shouxin Perú, Gold Fields La Cima and Hudbay Perú.


Meanwhile, the extraction of other minerals increased, such as, zinc (17.3%), tin (7.6%), gold (7.5%), silver (2.9%) and lead (1.0%); nevertheless, molybdenum (-17.5%) and iron (-0.1%) reduced.


Electricity production increased in 16 departments
During July of 2025 and compared to the same month of the last year, sixteen departments showed higher positive behaviors compared to the result of the national production of electricity (2.3%), impacting the growth of Puno (129.3%), Arequipa (65.1%), Huánuco (51.4%), Junín (29.2%), Cusco (14.3%), Piura (8.7%) and Huancavelica (8.5%), these seven regions contributed with the 33.2% of the total generated.


Meanwhile that it contracted in Ucayali (-85.4%), Madre de Dios (-46.9%), Ancash (-28.3%), Ica (- 22.4%), Moquegua (-4.1%) and Lima (-1.9%); nevertheless, this last department was the first producer of electric energy and contributed with the 53.9% of the national total.


Across the country, the production of electric energy, increased by 2.3% compared to the same month of 2024, due to the greater generation of hydroelectric energy in the power stations of Chaglla, San Gabán, Machupicchu, Chimay, Aricota I, Carhuaquero, Yuncan, Cerro del Águila and Yanango.


Nevertheless, the generation of thermoelectric energy of public use reduced due to the lower production in the following power stations Santa Rosa I, Santa Rosa II, Aguaytía, Independencia, Kallpa and Santo Domingo de Olleros; in addition, the production of the non-conventional renewable energy, due to the lower generation of wind energy.


Revenues Collected by Internal Taxes grew in 23 departments
During July of 2025, the revenues collected by internal taxes increased in twenty-three departments, registering greater dynamism in the departments of Cusco (19.7%), Ica (14-7%), Lima (8.2%), La Libertad (4.2%) and Piura (1.9%), which represented together the 91.7% of the total collected; on the other hand, it just decreased in Arequipa (-7,3%).


The revenues collected by internal taxes, during the month under study, totalized 11 thousand 529 million 555 thousand Soles, a higher figure in 8.2% compared to the collected in July of the last year. This favorable performance was driven by the greater payments made of the income tax of the first, third and fifth category; in addition of the regularization areas, special regime of income tax and MYPE tax regime. In addition, the value added tax, excise tax and the special mining.
