61.6% of the population of 18 years old and older has some account in the financial system

During the second quarter of 2025, 61.6% of the population of 18 years old and older has some account in the financial system (savings account, remuneration account, fixed-term account or current account), higher figure in 2.4 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (59.2%).
The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Living Conditions in Peru, stated that, the 59.2% has a savings account or remuneration account and 6.6% a current account or fixed-term account, indicators that registers increases of 1.0 and 1.5 percentage points, respectively; compared to the same quarter of the last year (58.2% and 5.1%).
67.3% of the population with some account in the financial system is from 30 to 44 years old
By age group, the greater proportion of the population with some account in the financial system is from 30 to 44 years old (67.3%), 2.3 percentage points more than in the same quarter of the last year (65.0%). Followed by 65.5% of the population of 18 to 29 years old and 54.4% of the group of 45 years old and older, segments of the population that showed increases of 2.3 and 2.7 percentage points, respectively; compared to the second quarter of 2024.
86.7% of the population with university superior education has some account in the financial system
According to the educational attainment level, during the second quarter of 2025, the greater proportion of population with some account in the financial system corresponded to those that studied university superior education level (86.7%), 1.1 percentage points more than in the same quarter of 2024 puntos (85.6%); followed by those that have non-university superior education level (77.2%), secondary education level (54.0%) and those that studied primary or lower education level (38.2%).
91.8% of the population has some health insurance
During the second quarter of 2025, 91.8% of the population interviewed stated that they have some type of health insurance, higher proportion in 1.9 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (89.9%).
In this regard, it outstood the coverage to this service in the rural area (95.1%) compared to the urban area (91.0%), increased by 1.5 and 2.0 percentage points respectively, compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Greater proportion of population accessed to the Comprehensive Health Insurance
Between April and June of 2025, from the total of the affiliated population to some type of health insurance, the greater percentage corresponded to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS). Therefore, 63.3% at national level, is affiliated to this service and, registered an increase of 2.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (61.2%).
According to residence area, 57.3% of the population that lives in the urban area and 88.6% of the population that lives in the rural area is affiliated to SIS, observing positive variations of 2.1 and 1,8 percentage points, respectively; compared to the second quarter of 2024.
Chronic diseases mostly affected the older adult population
During the quarter under analysis, the chronic diseases appeared with greater frequency in the older adult population of 60 years old and older (80.2%), followed by the population of 50 to 59 years old (65.4%). In a lower proportion, the population of 15 to 49 years old (39.1%) and under 15 years old (14.9%).
School attendance of the population of 12 to 16 years old to secondary education was of 92.2%
During the second quarter of 2025, the school attendance rate of the population of 12 to 16 years old that attended to some year of secondary education level was of the 92.2%, increasing in 1.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (91.1%).
By residence area, this indicator reached to the 92.5% among the population of the urban area and to the 91.3% among the population of the rural area, with increases of 0.8 and 2.1 percentage points, respectively; compared to the second quarter of the last year.
18.1% of the households of the country have a bike as means of transportation
According to the results obtained during the second quarter of the year 2025, 18.1% of the households have a bike, Likewise, 14.6% have a car/truck, 13.2% motorcycle and 7.9% have a moto-taxi.
