Restaurants Sector decreased by 0.87% in July of 2025

During July of 2025, the restaurants sector (foods and beverages services) decreased by 0.87% compared to the same month of 2024, according to the results of the Monthly Survey of Restaurants of the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI). In the first seven months of the year 2025, the sector accumulates a growth of 1.64% compared to the same period of the last year.
The lower production of the sector during the month of July of 2025 is mainly explained by the lower dynamism in the restaurants businesses (-1.91%), associated to the closure of facilities, as well as the citizen insecurity; to which it added a lower investment in advertising campaigns. On the other hand, other activities such as catering foodservices (26.17%), other activities of food services (2.12%) and beverage service (0.42%) showed positive results.
Catering service grew 26.17%
During July of 2025, the catering foodservices showed a remarkable growth of 26.17%, compared to the same month of 2024, driven by the greater contraction of preparation services and food distribution for events in attentions of coffee breaks, National brunches Creole lunches, buffet dinners and open bar. In addition, social events (marriages, birthdays, baby showers, reencounters), corporative and institutional.
Concessionaire service increased by 2.12%
During the month of July of 2025 Other activities of food services grew by 2.12%, compared to the same month of the last year, explained by the expansion of concessionaires of foods, linked to new projects and contracts with mining, cement, fishing, electricity companies, universities, schools, public and financial entities, clinic and hospitals.
In addition, the great supply of foods to contractors of air and land transportation, favored by the high frequency of travels in the long holiday of National Holidays and mid-year school vacation, as well as by promotions in tour packages towards emerging destinations.
Beverage service increased 0.42%
During the month under study, the service of beverages increased 0.42% compared to July of 2024, driven by the greater demand in bar-restaurants, bars and juice-maker store. Events such as the National Day of the Peruvian Pisco, World Cacao Day, The Fair Bodega Surco and the Feast Cafetera Patria in Lima dynamize the activity with pisco, wines, artisan beers tastings, desserts and Creole buffet breakfasts, accompanied of Creole music spectacles.
On the other hand, the coffee shops and discos registered lower consumption due to the reduction of service hours due to security measures.
Restaurants registered an unfavorable result of -1.91%
During July of 2025, the group of restaurants registered a variation of -1.91% compared to the same month of 2024, affected by the lower demand in business of fast foods, Chifas (Chinesse restaurants), pollerías (grilled chicken restaurants), confectioners, meats and grills, ice-cream shops, coffee-restaurants and pizza restaurants. Among the factors that influenced outstood the closure of facilities, the citizen security and the lack of advertising dissemination.
On the other hand, the sandwich restaurants, cevicherías (seafood restaurants), restaurants of international, Creole, Touristic and Gourmet food, registered dynamism, driven by the greater attendance during the National Holydays, promotions and discounts in digital platforms, consumption through the delivery and offers disseminated in printed media.
In addition, this performance was backed by the performance of gastronomic fairs such as the Festival of National Holydays, de Fiestas Patrias, Gastromaq Peru (Lima), Peru Mucho Gusto (Tacna) and Qué Rico Peru (Huancayo).
