Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area grew 2.8% between June and August of this year

Employed population in Lima Metropolitan area increased by 2.8% (154 thousand), reaching a total of 5 million 621 thousand 900 persons compared to the quarter June-July-August of 2025 to the same period of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared based in the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).
During the quarter under analysis, the male employed population increased by 3.6% (105 thousand 700 persons) and the female by 1.9% (48 thousand 300) compared to the same quarter of 2024. In total, male population represents the 54.5% of the employed population (3 million 62 thousand 400) and women population represents 45.5% (2 million 559 thousand 500).
The employed population of 45 years old and older increased by 6.8%
By age groups, between the months of June and August of 2025, the employed population grew by 6.8% (140 thousand 900) among those that are 45 years and older, increased by 3.1% (81 thousand 900) in the group of 25 to 44 years old, meanwhile between the population of 14 to 24 years old it reduced by 9.8% (-68 thousand 700).
Employment increased by 10.2% in the population with superior university education level
During the quarter under analysis, according to education level, the employment increased by 10.2% (161 thousand 900) among the persons with university superior education level, it increased by 0.6% (7 thousand 600) among those that have non-university superior education level and by 0.6% (2 thousand 100) among those that reached primary education or lower education level; on the other hand in those that have secondary education level it decreased by 0.8% (-17 thousand 600).
Construction led the generation of employment by growing in 6.3%
During the quarter June-July-August of 2025, the employed population increased in Construction by growing 6.3% (23 thousand 300), followed by that of Services by 3.7% (109 thousand 400), Commerce by 0.7% (8 thousand 300) and Manufacture increased by 6% (4 thousand 600), compared to the same quarter of the year 2024.
Employment in economic units of 11 to 50 employees increased by 15.2%
The employed population increased by 15.2% (93 thousand 100) in companies of 11 to 50 employees and by 6.7% (101 thousand 500) in those companies of 51 and more employees, meanwhile it decreased by 1.2% (-40 thousand 600) in those of 1 to 10 employees, compared with the results obtained between the months of June and August of the year 2024.
Employed population with suitable employment increased by 13.5%
During the quarter Juen-July-August of 2025, the population with suitable employment grew by 13.5% (436 thousand 800) in Lima Metropolitan area and reached 3 million 682 thousand 700 persons, meanwhile that the underemployed population decreased by 12.7% (-282 thousand 800), decreasing by 17.5% (-80 thousand 800) the visible underemployment (time-related underemployment) and by 11.5% (-202 thousand 100) the invisible underemployment (due to incomes).
Unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area reached 6.0%
The unemployment rate in Lima Metropolitan area during the quarter under analysis, placed in 6.0%, which is equivalent to 358 thousand persons in active job searching.
Average monthly income coming from work of the main activity grew 12.1%
During the quarter under analysis, the average monthly income coming from main job in Lima Metropolitan area totalized 2,249.6 Soles, a higher amount by 12.1% (242.7 Soles) compared to the registered in the same quarter of 2024. According to sex, men received monthly 2,553.4 Soles and women received 1,877.6 Soles, which meant that female population receive an average the 73.5% of the male population income. By comparing the quarter under study to the same mobile quarter of the last year, the average income of men grew 12.5% (282.6 Soles) and that of women grew by 11.1% (188.2 Soles).
Average monthly income of the employed population of 25 to 44 years old increased by 13.3%
By ages, the average monthly income increased by 13.3% (271.9 Soles) in the group of 25 to 44 years old, by 9,2% (203.7 Soles) in the group of 45 years old and older, and by 8.6% (102.6 Soles) among the young people of 14 to 24 years old, compared to the same quarter of the last year.
Income grew 20.4% among the employed population that works in construction
The average monthly income increased between those employed that perform activities in the Construction sector by 20.4% (413.9 Soles), Commerce by 14.1% (228.4 Soles), Manufacturing by 12.8% (249.6 Soles) and Services by 11,8% (250.6 Soles), compared to the same quarter of the year 2024.
