INEI: 89.2% of the population of 6 to 17 years old accessed to the Internet through a cellphone

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) on the basis of the technical report State of the Childhood and Adolescence, prepared with the results of the National Households Survey (ENAHO), informed that in the second quarter of 2025, 89.2% of children under 6 to 17 years old accessed to the Internet through the cellphone, a higher figure in 1.3 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (87.9%). Likewise, 29.0% of this population group accessed to the Internet in their homes, lower figure in 1.2 percentage points, compared to the second quarter of 2024 (30.2%).
Access to some health insurance reached 96.0% of the population under 18 years old During the quarter under study, 96.0% of the population under 18 years old of the country accessed to some health insurance (being public or private), increasing this coverage in 1.5 percentage points, increasing this coverage in 1.5 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the last year (94.5%).
According to type of insurance, the greater percentage growth was registered in the access only to the Comprehensive Health Insurance (SIS), in 1.6 percentage points, by going from 70.3% in the second quarter of the year 2024 to 71.9% in the same quarter of 2025. In addition, it increased in 0.1 percentage point the access only to EsSalud. Meanwhile that, the access to other insurances decreased in 0.3 percentage point.
In the urban area, 65.8% of this population group is affiliated to the SIS, increasing in 1.7 percentage points compared to the same quarter of the last year (64.1%).
Population of 14 to 17 years old that just studied increased
From April to June of 2025, 70.5% of the adolescent population of 14 to 17 years old just studied, a higher figure in 1.0 percentage point, compared to the same quarter of the last year (69.5%); followed by the 11.4% that did not study nor worked, registering a growth of 1.1 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of 2024 (10.3%). In contrast, 13.1% of this population studied and helped in some activity, a lower figure in 1.7 percentage points, compared to the second quarter of 2024, likewise, the population that just work reduced from 5.4% during the second quarter of 2024 to 5.0% during the second quarter of 2025.
According to residence area, in the rural area, 54.1% of the population of 14 to 17 years old is dedicated just to studying, which meant an increase of 3.8 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of 2024.
At national level, 47.7% of the households have among their members a person under 18 years old
During the second quarter of 2025, 47.7% of the households of the country had among their members at least one person under 18 years old, lower percentage in 2.6 percentage points, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (50.3%).
In the urban area, 47.8% of households comply with this condition and in the rural area 47.4%; with reductions of 2.9 and 1.1 percentage points, respectively, compared to the second quarter of 2024.
69.5% of the households of the country with population under 18 years old are nuclear
From April to June of 2025, 69.5 % of households of the country with at least a child under 18 years old are nuclear (comprised by the chief of the household and spouse with children or by the chief with children); which represented an increase of 1.0 percentage point, compared to the same quarter of 2024 (68.5 %).
Meanwhile that in extended households (nuclear households that lives with one or more relatives), reached 27.6%, it means, 0.4 percentage point less compared to the same quarter of the year 2024 (28.0%).
