INEI starts the Fourth Census of Indigenous Communities across the country

The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) had launched the Fourth Census of Indigenous Communities, part of the National Censuses that end in October.
The goal: to collect update information about the demographic, social, economic, cultural and territorial characteristics of the native and peasant communities, key input to design public policies that benefitted this population.
From Pucallpa, the chief of the INEI, Gaspar Morán Flores, stated that the results also will allow to prepare development plans, to promote better living conditions and strengthen the respect to the cultural diversity and the rights of the indigenous people.
The census form includes 99 questions in 12 sections about the community organization, migration, land, natural resources, infrastructure, transportation, access to social programs, education and health. In addition, it incorporates contents tailored to the cultural, social and linguistic reality of the communities.
In Peru there are 10,584 indigenous communities, from which 3,282 are native and 7,302 peasant. In each one of them, the census officers will start the interview with the community authorities in the original language of the place or with support of interpreters.
The official launching of the Census was held in Yarinacocha, with the participation of the vice-minister of interculturality, Percy Yhair Barranzuela Bombilla; the regional governor of Ucayali, Manuel Gambini Rupay; and the district female mare, Katherin Melissa Rodríguez Díaz.

INEI reinforce the security of the census personnel
In parallel, the INEI continues coordinating actions to protect the field personnel. In Pucallpa, Gaspar Morán headed the Articulation Regional Table for the Security of the Census Personnel, together with the National Police of Peru, regional and local authorities.
In the meeting, held in the Municipality of coronel Portillo, participated the PNP General Roberto Mercado Calderón, chief of the Macro Police Region of Ucayali, and other authorities. Morán reaffirmed that the security of the census officers is a constitutional priority.
