Activity of restaurants registered contraction of 3.32% in June of 2025

During June of 2025, the activity of restaurants (services of foods and beverages) decreased by 3.32% compared to the same month of the last year. This variation was determined by the lower activity of restaurants business and of beverage service; nevertheless, the catering foodservice and other activities of food service showed a positive performance.


The National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI) informed that during the first semester of this year, this activity accumulated a growth of 2.10% compared to the same period of the last year.


Group of restaurants presented a downward trend
The group of restaurants reduced by 5.11% compared to the same month of the last year, explained by the low influx of customers in establishments of fast foods, pollerías (chicken grill restaurants), chifas (Chinese food restaurants, restaurants, cevicherías (seafood restaurants), pastries, tour restaurants and ice-cream shops. This was due to the closure of facilities due to commercial restructuring, temporary closure of the shopping center Larcomar after the earthquake occurred in Lima, the increase of prices of inputs and the citizen insecurity.


Likewise, there were affected the business of pizza restaurants, international food, Creole food and coffee restaurants. On the other hand, the sandwich restaurants and facilities of meats and grills registered an increase due to the greater demand.


Beverage’s service registered a decrease of activity
During June of 2025, beverages service reduced by 1.20% compared to the same month of the last year. This result obeyed the drop of sales in discos, juice shops and bars, as a consequence of the reduction of opening hours and opening hours and the winter season. Nevertheless, it grew the establishments of coffee shops and restaurants bar, favoured by promotions of breakfast combos, free bar drinks and discounts linked to affiliations with telephone lines.

Catering foodservice expanded by 57.93%
The catering foodservice increased by 57.93% during June of 2025, driven by the greater demand of preparation and distribution of foods for special events, such as buffets, banquets and executive breakfasts in conference and conventions and corporative breaks.
Other activities of food service grew by 0.84%
During June of 2025, other activities of food services increased by 0.84%, due to the positive performance of foods concessionaires, in response to greater orders of food services in cafeterias of mining, fishing, electric companies, cement plants, financial entities, public institutions, clinics and hospitals, offering varied and balanced menus. On the other hand, supply of foods for contractors (services of food for transportation companies), reduced its activity, mainly due to the temporary closure of operations in VIP lounges, as a consequence of the transfer to the new International Airport Jorge Chávez of Lima.
