Employed population grew 1.6% from May to July of 2025 in Lima Metropolitan area

During the quarter May-June-Jully of 2025, the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area reached 5 million 562 thousand 900 persons and increased by 1.6% (86 thousand 600 persons), compared to the same quarter of the last year. This was informed by the National Institute of Statistics and Informatics (INEI), in the technical report Situation of the Labor Market in Lima Metropolitan area, prepared with the results of the Permanent Survey of National Employment (EPEN).


By comparing the quarter under analysis with the same mobile period of the last year, the male employed population increased by 3.6% (105 thousand); meanwhile that the female employed population decreased by 0.7% (-18 thousand 400), compared to the same quarter of 2024.


In adittion, it was informed that from the total of the employed population of Lima Metropolitan area, 54.4% (3 million 24 thousand 300) are men and 45.6% (2 million 538 thousand 600) women.


Employed population of 45 years and older increased by 6.0%
During the qurter under analysis, the employed population increased between those that are 45 years old and older by 6.0% (125 thousand 500), followed by the group of 25 to 44 years old by 1.3% (34 thousand 400); nevertheless, it decreased 10.5% (-73 thousand 300) in population of 14 to 24 years old, compared to the same quarter of the year 2024.


Employed population with university superior education level increased by 7.2%
According to education level, during the quarter under analysis and compared to the same quarter of the year 2024, the employed population with university superior education level grew by 7.2% (113 thousand 500); on the other hand, it decreased between those that reached non-university superior education level by 1.5% (-18 thousand 600), in the population with primary or lower education level by 0.9% (-3 thousand 600) and in those with secondary education level by 0.2% (-4 thousand 700).


Employment increased in all productive sectors
During the quarter May-June-July of 2025, compared to the same quarter of the last year, outstood the increase of the employed population in Services 2.7% (81 thousand 600), followed by Construction 0.9% (3 thousand 300), Commerce by 0.8% (9 thousand 600) and Manufacturing by 0.3% (2 thousand 300).


Employed population in economic units of 11 to 50 employees grew by 9.8%
From May to July of 2025, the employed population in the economic units of 11 to 50 employees registered an increase of 9.8% (59 thousand 300) and in the establishments of 51 and more employees by 5.2% (78 thousand 100); meanwhile, it decreased in the companies of 1 to 10 employees by 1.5% (-50 thousand 800).


Unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area was 6.1%
The INEI informed that during the quarter of May-June-July of 2025, the unemployment rate of Lima Metropolitan area was of 6.1%. It is estimated that during the quarter under analysis 358 thousand 800 persons sought employment actively.


Population with suitable employment increased by 13.0%
During the quarter under analysis, the population with suitable employment grew by 13.0% (418 thousand), compared to the same quarter of 2024 and totalized 3 million 629 thousand 100 persons.


On the other hand, the underemployed employed population decreased by 14.6% (-331 thousand 500). From this total of time-related underemployed (visible underemployment) decreased by 26.7% (-128 thousand 300) and underemployed by incomes (invisible underemployment) by 11.4% (-203 thousand 200).


Average monthly income coming from work of the main activity increased by 10.7%
Among the months of May and July of 2025, the average monthly income coming from work of the main activity in Lima Metropolitan area was of 2,211.60 Soles, compared to the same quarter of the last year, was greater by 10.7% (213.5 Soles).
According to sex, the average monthly income of men placed in 2,520.70 Soles and that of women in 1,836.70 Soles; therefore, women earn 72.9% of the income of men.


Income increased 12.1% in the population of 25 to 44 years old
During the quarter under analysis, the income increased by 12.1% (247.70 Soles) among the employed population of 25 to 44 years old, by 8.5% (184.10 Soles) in the group of 45 years old and older and by 4.0% (47.20 Soles) among the employed of 14 to 24 years old; compared to the same quarter of the year 2024.


Average monthly income in the Manufacturing sector increased by 17.8%
The average monthly income coming from work increased between the employed ones that perform activities in the Manufacturing by 17.8% (334.80 Soles), followed by the population that work in Construction by 13.1% (286.10 Soles), Services by 11.0% (232.00 Soles) and Commerce by 6.1% (98.10 Soles), compared to the same quarter of the last year.
